    Abstract: A cutting element for use in drilling subterranean formations. The cutting element includes a superabrasive table mounted to a supporting substrate. The superabrasive table includes a two-dimensional cutting face having a cutting edge along at least a portion of its periphery, and a surface comprising a chamfer extending forwardly and inwardly from proximate a peripheral cutting edge at a first acute angle of orientation of greater than about 45° with respect to the longitudinal axis of the cutting element, and to no greater than a selected depth. The chamfer may be arcuate or planar, and of a dimension sufficient to ensure that a wear flat generated during use of the cutting element remains outside the inner boundary of the chamfer within the chamfer envelope, and small enough to maintain aggressive cutting characteristics for the cutter. Drill bits and drilling tools bearing the cutting elements are also disclosed.

    Abstract: A progressive forging machine having automatically adjustable cam timing for transfer finger opening and closing movement and for knockout pin action. The cams can be adjusted without manual effort to thereby reduce changeover time and the level of skill required to effect a changeover. For each of the transfer finger and knockout actions, a separate cam assembly is provided with a series of cam sections that are selectively repositionable on a common shaft by appropriate operation of a corresponding series of cam stop actuators and a common clutch actuator.

    Abstract: A transfer mechanism for a progressive forging machine in which the fingers for transporting workpieces from station to station are arranged to pick the workpieces axially out of dies from which they are being discharged, transfer the workpieces laterally from the discharging stations to receiving stations, place the workpieces axially into the receiving stations, and then open wide enough to clear tooling on the slide and return to the original delivery stations. Included in the mechanism is an adjustment for the axial stroke of the fingers and a cassette mounting for the fingers enabling them to be readily replaced with another cassette for a changeover in the workpieces being forged.

    Abstract: Apparatus for separately adjusting the shut height of individual tools on a progressive forging machine "on the fly" when the machine is running. The apparatus includes individual load bearing wedge blocks on the slide for supporting associated tool cassettes. Each wedge block is displaced by a secondary wedge-like cam driven by an associated power actuator. The wedge geometry yields a compact, rugged construction. The cassettes are supported by precision located surfaces that allow desired axial adjustment without loss of alignment with opposed dies.
