  • Publication number: 20160004610
Abstract: Apparatuses, systems and methods are disclosed for tolerating fault in a communications grid. Specifically, various techniques and systems are provided for detecting a fault or failure by a node in a network of computer nodes in a communications grid, adjusting the grid to avoid grid failure, and taking action based on the failure. In an example, a system may include receiving grid status information at a backup control node, the grid status information including a project status, storing the grid status information within the backup control node, receiving a failure communication including an indication that a primary control node has failed, designating the backup control node as a new primary control node, receiving updated grid status information based on the indication that the primary control node has failed, and transmitting a set of instructions based on the updated grid status information.

  • Publication number: 20150242233
Abstract: The disclosure relates to systems and methods for defining a processor safety privilege level for controlling a distributed memory access protection system. More specifically, a safety hypervisor function for accessing a bus in a computer processing system includes a module, such as a Computer Processing Unit (CPU) or a Direct Memory Access (DMY) for accessing a system memory and a memory unit for storing a safety code, such as a Processor Status Word (PSW) or a configuration register (DMA (REG)). The module allocates the safety code to a processing transaction and the safety code is visible upon access of the bus by the module.

  • Patent number: 9032258
Abstract: Some embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a watchdog timer having an enhanced functionality that enables the watchdog timer to monitor a process flow of the microprocessor on a task-by-task basis that enables a simple output signal to be used to determine if the watchdog timer is malfunctioning. The watchdog timer has a state machine that increments a state variable from an initial value over a watchdog period. A deterministic service request, received from a microprocessor, controls operation of the watchdog timer. The deterministic service request has an indicator of a monitoring operation to be performed, a password, and an estimated state variable. A comparison element determines if the microprocessor is operating properly based upon a comparison of the received password to an expected password and the received estimated state variable to an actual state variable.

  • Patent number: 9018800
Abstract: Series strings of photovoltaic (PV) modules with integrated dc-dc microconverters that can function in buck, boost, or an intermediate bridge mode based on the load can harvest more energy than conventional central-inverter architectures, especially when the arrays are partially shaded or when the modules are mismatched. The integrated multi-mode dc-dc converter includes a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm that can track the true MPP, even when a PV module becomes partially-shaded, without scanning the entire output voltage range. The algorithm compares power levels only at a voltage that occurs when a bypass diode bypasses a portion of an associated PV module, and multiples thereof.

  • Patent number: 8115345
Abstract: A low-EMI switched circuit comprises two or more switches, wherein impedance transitions of the switches are overlapped and the overlap is varied using variable switch timing based on an output power level of the switched circuit. The variable timing results in a variable impedance overlap between the switches. In one example, when one switch turns off (begins a low to high impedance transition) and a second switch turns on (begins a high to low impedance transition), a greater timing delay in beginning the second switch's transition results in a higher switch impedance overlap than a shorter delay does. If the variable timing is based on output power of the switched circuit, the variable delay can operate to reduce fly-back voltages at high power output levels and reduce shoot-through current at lower power levels, reducing EMI and quiescent current of the switched circuit.

  • Patent number: 7972416
Abstract: A method and apparatus for humidifying air in which the first side of a permselective water transport membrane is contacted with water vapor laden flue gas from a combustion process having a first water vapor partial pressure and a first temperature and at least a portion of the water vapor is condensed, producing condensed water. The condensed water is transported through the membrane to the opposite side of the membrane, which is contacted with an air stream having a second water vapor partial pressure, which second water vapor partial pressure is less than the first water vapor partial pressure, and having a second temperature, which second temperature is less than the first temperature. Upon contact with the air stream, the condensed water evaporates into the air stream, resulting in a humidified air stream.
