  • Patent number: 5417954
Abstract: New crystalline phases of the fluoroaluminum compounds NH.sub.4 AlF.sub.4 and AlF.sub.3 and processes for their preparation are disclosed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 2, 1994
Date of Patent: May 23, 1995
Assignee: E. I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company
Inventors: Richard L. Harlow, Norman Herron
  • Patent number: 5134756
Abstract: A method and apparatus for molding a plastic cap on a preformed metallic shank includes inserting the shank on a strip material by a shank insertion device such that a head of the shank is elevated above the strip material. A molding device, having an open mold cavity is engaged with the strip material such that the strip material acts as a portion of the mold. The elevated head is positioned within the cavity. Plastic is injected into the mold cavity to surround and encapsulate the button head.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 6, 1990
Date of Patent: August 4, 1992
    Assignee: YKK Corporation
Inventors: Tim H. Sparrow, Richard L. Harlow, Don Wilder, Kevin Jackson
  • Patent number: 5094601
Abstract: An apparatus for molding a plastic cap onto a pre-formed metallic shank includes a shank insertion device for inserting the shank onto a carrier member such that a head of the shank is elevated above the carrier member. A molding device, having an open mold cavity engages the carrier member such that the carrier member acts as a portion of the mold. A contour forming device can be used to form raised contours in said carrier member prior to the insertion of said shanks at said shank insertion device. A feeder mechanism is provided for drawing the carrier member through the contour forming device, the shank insertion device, and the molding device.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 12, 1991
Date of Patent: March 10, 1992
    Assignee: YKK Corporation
Inventors: Tim H. Sparrow, Richard L. Harlow, Don Wilder, Kevin Jackson
  • Patent number: 5087404
Abstract: A method for molding plastic caps onto preformed metallic shanks, the metallic shanks having a head portion and a leg portion, wherein the leg portion of the shanks are inserted into a carrier member leaving a portion of the head portion elevated from the carrier member. A molding device is thereafter engaged with the carrier member over the head of the shank to form a molding cavity therearound. Plastic is then injected into the mold cavity to surround and encapsulate the head portion. The mold cavity is thereafter open and the completed capped shank is removed from the carrier member. The carrier member can comprise an elongated strip which can be pulled through work stations performing the various forming, inserting and injecting steps in regulated fashion.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4788753
Abstract: A button for attachment to a sheet of compliant material that includes an elastic body and a cap formed from malleable material secured to the body. The flange of the elastic body has an integral thin ring to which the outer portion of the cap is wrapped around and secured. Heat causes expansion of the elastic body; but, because, the ring is thin there is little expansion and the periphery of the cap is not cammed open to become loose on the body of the button.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 29, 1987
Date of Patent: December 6, 1988
    Assignee: Universal Fasteners Inc.
Inventors: Timothy H. Sparrow, Richard L. Harlow
  • Patent number: 4768276
Abstract: An apparatus for joining two elements of a fastener element together with a sheet of compliant material sandwiched therebetween includes an apertured member whose opening is shaped to accept one of the fastener elements. The remote end of the fastener element has a recess therein with the material stretched taut across the opening to the recess. A prong member pierces the material and seats itself in the recess with the material immediately surrounding the recess lying in a wrinkle free condition.
