Publication number: 20040218469Abstract: A static mixer comprising a mixer body with a first and a second array of intermeshed and interconnecting passageways formed therein that connect, and provide a convoluted flow path between, flow faces at ends of the mixer body. The first and second arrays of passageways preferably interconnect such that the boundaries of adjacent intermeshed passageways overlap to form mixing portals. When used in an injection molding system, a singular melt flow is initially divided at the first flow face of the static mixer, wherein the melt flow divides into the intermeshing passageways and further divides and re-combines at the locations of mixing portals before exiting the static mixer at the second flow face as homogenized melt.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 3, 2003Publication date: November 4, 2004Applicant: Husky Injection Molding Systems LTDInventors: Richard M. Patent number: 6241932Abstract: A method and system of operating a two stage injection molding machine wherein movement of the injection plunger in the shooting pot is coordinated with movement of the plasticizing screw and melt flow into the shooting pot such that the plunger provides minimal resistance to the melt flow into the shooting pot while avoiding the production of voids or air inside the melt. The undesired shear forces to which the melt is exposed are thus reduced, correspondingly reducing the melt degradation products which would otherwise result.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1999Date of Patent: June 5, 2001Assignee: Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd.Inventors: Christopher W. Patent number: 5660902Abstract: An inventive orientation apparatus is provided in the present invention preferably for use with blow molding operations. The apparatus includes an object having a body portion and a neck portion. The neck portion has an outer peripheral surface and an alignment lug which extends outwardly from the peripheral surface and past the same. Additionally, a rotating support is included for supporting the object and causing the same to rotate, wherein the rotating support is movable with a moving carrier pallet. The apparatus also includes an orientating element located adjacent the carrier which engages the alignment lug on the object and stops the rotation of the object at a desired orientation. The invention may also include an orientation check device which is positioned upstream from the orientation element, adjacent the carrier, which is used for checking the orientation of the alignment lug for preventing a system jam.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 1995Date of Patent: August 26, 1997Assignee: Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd.Inventors: Richard M. Unterlander, Ronald William Ingram, Lou L. Fior, Peter Kamka, Marc Joseph Jaspar, Sam S. Baron, Kevin T. Yang
