  • Patent number: 9664686
Abstract: An imaging system (10) and associated method for detection of protein contamination on a surgical instrument (100) that has been treated with a fluorescing stain, wherein fluorophors in the stain are capable of emitting light of an emitted type when both excited by light of an excitation type and in contact with a protein are provided. The system comprises a light tight chamber (14) for receiving the instrument (100). Inside the chamber (14) are both visible light sources (20) and excitation light sources (22) for respectively illuminating the chamber with visible and excitation type light. A digital camera (30) is able to capture a first image of the instrument (100) as illuminated by the visible light, and a second image, of patterns of fluorescence produced by the fluorophors in the stain corresponding to protein contamination. The first and second images are combined to produce a composite image of the instrument (100) highlighting the areas of protein contamination.

  • Patent number: 7333052
Abstract: Signal processing with reduced combinatorial complexity for tracking evolving phenomena such as radar tracks associated with weighted measurement parameters includes selecting a current phenomenon and obtaining a set of measurement parameters associated with it. Beginning at a start node providing a first parent node having an identity, an identity for a child node of the patent is produced from the sets of parameters, the parent identity and a parameter selected from the set and corresponding to the child. This is iterated for other parameters in the set. Child nodes of like identity for the phenomenon are treated as a single node with multiple parameter relationships associated with at lest one parent node, whereas child nodes with differing identities are represented as separate nodes. The process is iterated for other phenomena and associated sets of measurement parameters, but child nodes of a previously processed phenomenon are not treated as parent nodes of a phenomenon processed immediately following.

  • Patent number: 5875613
Abstract: An improved method and device are provided for evacuating gas from a gas tight envelope such as a bag of plastic film, enclosing one or more trays containing solid or granular material. The vacuum probe used in accordance with the invention to evacuate the envelope has one or more parallel grooves or apertures extending its length. The probe is inserted vertically into the envelope along the side of the tray and provides a vacuum, across the length of the probe to prevent blocking of the probe and ceasing evacuation of the gas.

  • Patent number: 5491957

The vacuum probe used in accordance with the invention to evacuate the envelope has one or more parallel grooves or apertures extending its length. The probe is inserted into the envelope in such a way that the grooves or apertures tangentially oppose the contents of the envelope and provide a vacuum, across the length of the probe to prevent blocking of the probe and ceasing evacuation of the gas.
