  • Patent number: 5849374
Abstract: A compostable multilayer structure in the form of a film, sheet, laminate, and the like, which comprises a core layer having a first surface and a second surface, a first blocking reducing layer covering the first surface of the core layer, and a second blocking reducing layer covering the second surface of the core layer. The core layer contains a lactic acid residue-containing polymer and has a glass transition temperature (T.sub.g) below about 20.degree. C. The first and second blocking reducing layers include a polymer composition of a hydrolyzable polymer and have a T.sub.g above about 50.degree. C. The multilayer structure can be used for preparing bags and wrappers.

  • Patent number: 5714573
Abstract: The invention is directed toward melt-processable lactide polymer compositions, processes for manufacturing these compositions, and articles made from these compositions. The compositions include a first phase, which contains a polylactide-based polymer, and a second phase which includes elastomer. The elastomer is present in an amount sufficient to provide a polymer composition having an impact resistance of at least about 0.7 ft-lb/in. after the melt-processable polymer composition has been injection molded into bars and tested according to ASTM D256 (1993) method C. Preferably, the compositions also include a reactive compatibilizing agent. Methods of making these compositions and articles made from these compositions are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5557982
Abstract: A high efficiency lightweight bicycle handlebar using strong, stiff fibers and a structural resin is disclosed. Relatively low modulus fibers are used in the axial direction and relatively high modulus fibers in the transverse or hoop direction. The hoop fibers are placed on the inside and outside diameters.

  • Patent number: 4696191
Abstract: Apparatus and method for detecting voids and particulates in a fluid within a containing vessel. A diffuse ultrasonic signal is coupled into the fluid by a first transducer and the portion of the ultrasonic signal transmitted through the fluid is detected by a second transducer. The received signal is analyzed by a processor to determine the void fraction of the fluid responsive to the attenuation of the received ultrasonic signal. In addition, voids and particulates are detected by evaluating the increase in side-band energy of the received signal.

  • Patent number: 4302032
Abstract: A clip-on identifier is provided for a loose-leaf ledger book of the type having a front binder bar with a front cover pivotally attached thereto. The clip-on identifier is formed from a transparent material and includes a middle portion extending across a flat front side of the front binder bar of the ledger book, and inner and outer edge portions for closely engaging inner and outer edges of the front binder bar. The outer edge portion of the clip-on identifier includes an integral magnifying lens for enlarging the appearance of an identifying label located adjacent the outer edge of the front binder bar.
