  • Patent number: 7667601
Abstract: Security apparatus is provided for the display of battery operated hand-held electronic devices. It includes a electronic recoiler device that combines the function of tethering the displayed devices while at the same time providing the power required by each of the displayed devices by means of a continuous electrical connection from a power supply to each displayed device. It also provides wire and wireless alarm functions, as well as visual perpetrator identification. The apparatus also provides specific product information and comparative product information to the potential customer by visual and audible means.

  • Publication number: 20080156922
Abstract: There is provided an apparatus for secure display of a portable electronic device wherein the device has an attached electrically conductive cable that is integral to the device and essential to the operation thereof, the device cable having a first end connected to the device and a second end, and an intermediate section, the apparatus comprising: device support means normally supporting the device and means for extending and retracting the device cable. The means for extending and retracting the cable includes pulley means having a first set of pulleys having a fixed position and a second set of linearly movable spring loaded pulleys. As the device is moved from the device support the second set of pulleys is urged towards the first set of pulleys thereby extending the device cable against the resistance of the spring loading, thereby creating retractive force for retraction of the cable. When the device is released the cable is retracted to the device support until halted by a cable stop.

  • Publication number: 20080157599
Abstract: An apparatus to enable convenient connection to an external power source and alarming means for a battery powered hand-held electronic device on a display when the device lacks means for such a connection is provided. The apparatus fits in the space provided for conventional disposable batteries and comprises an insulating housing, preferably cylindrical in shape with metallic caps that function as positive and negative terminals at the ends and a printed circuit having reverse polarity protection means within the housing connecting the terminals, and an electrical lead connected to an electrical connector that protrudes through an opening in the housing and connects to the external power source and alarming means which feeds the required current and puts the device into an alarm circuit. The device further typically comprises a small metallic cylinder that loosely fits within a cavity in the exterior of the negative terminal and makes contact with the negative battery contact.

  • Patent number: 6659382
Abstract: An apparatus for displaying mobile phones and other hand-held devices comprising a clamping system, a retracting system, and a positioning system. The clamping system holds a hand-held device between two parts, which are fastened together by a fitting and a security screw having a head with a slot requiring a special key. The retracting system includes a retractable tethering cable wound on a spool. The positioning system includes a male component, which anchors the tethering cable to the fitting, and a female component, which is mounted on the retracting system. The tethering cable passes through the female component of the positioning system so that when the hand-held device is retracted, the male component of the positioning system is received by the female component thus assuring proper orientation of the hand-held device on display.

  • Publication number: 20030010859
Abstract: An apparatus for displaying mobile phones and other hand-held devices comprised of a clamping system, a retracting system and a positioning system is provided. The clamping system comprises two parts which are fastened together around a fitting attached to the end of a tethering cable. A security screw or bolt having a head with a non-conventional slot holds the two parts together with a special key required to turn the head of the bolt or screw. The clamping system is thus locked onto the hand-held device and cannot be removed without the proper key. A tethering cable is anchored to the fitting used to fasten the clamping device through the male component of a positioning guide. The retracting system comprising a constant force spring maintains a retracting force on a spool of tethering cable so that when the tethered hand-held device is removed from the display and released, it is drawn back to the display.
