  • Patent number: 7944890
Abstract: A communications device operates in a wireless local area network (WLAN), and includes a processor operating in accordance with an operating system that includes a standardized set of object identifiers (OIDs) associated therewith. An antenna steering algorithm is executed by the processor for generating a driver query. A driver generates an antenna query in response to the driver query. A smart antenna is driven by the driver and generates antenna beams for receiving signals, and generates metrics based upon the received signals. The smart antenna provides to the driver a metric associated with the antenna query. The driver associates the metric received from the smart antenna with one of the object identifiers from the standardized set of object identifiers, and provides the same to the antenna steering algorithm.

  • Patent number: 7460625
Abstract: A method and apparatus for canceling cross-correlation noise due to a strong serving cell signal in a wireless communication system is disclosed. The wireless communication system includes a serving cell, at least one neighbor cell and at least one wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU). The WTRU receives a signal including a signal component transmitted by each of the serving and neighbor cells. The WTRU computes a cross-correlation of a pilot sequence of the serving cell and a pilot sequence of a target cell, and computes a target cell correlation by correlating the received signals with the pilot sequence of the target cell. The WTRU computes a cancellation signal for canceling the cross-correlation, and subtracts the cancellation signal from the target cell correlation. The WTRU then processes the cross-correlation cancelled signal for evaluation of handover.

  • Publication number: 20040127207
Abstract: Through the use of a serial bus processor coupled to memory-mapped registers of a programmable radio interface processor (RIP), the novel radio interface of the present invention overcomes the problem of disparate interfaces between the digital section and the analog section of a wireless communications system. The serial bus processor receives data from a plurality of lookup tables which, in turn, are indexed by data received from the analog section. The serial bus processor then uses data values retrieved from the lookup tables to generate processed control data for controlling the digital module. The lookup tables are programmed with data so to compensate for nonlinearities which may be present in the analog section, but are not accounted for in the digital section.

  • Patent number: 6252902
Abstract: An xDSL communication system using Discrete Multi-tone (DMT) symbols sent over a channel. The magnitude of the channel's frequency-domain equalizing filter is normalized, leaving only phase information. The inverse discrete fourier transform of the normalized filter gives a peak at a position which corresponds to the group time delay of the transmitted DMT symbol. Identification of the symbol boundary facilitates synchronization of the receiver symbol sample phase to the transmitter symbol phase.

  • Patent number: 6233276
Abstract: An xDSL communication system having a reduced number of digital filter coefficients. The full-length equalizer channel impulse response is truncated by first selecting a subset of contiguous filter samples followed by windowing and convolution with a time domain representation of a frequency domain filter. The result is a shorter equalizer having fewer coefficients so as to improve data transmission rate.
