  • Publication number: 20150271298
Abstract: A system for distributing audio or video data across a network, wherein an input data rate controller at a server controls the transmission rate to a client such that it matches the intended rendering rate of the data, and time stamps the data using a clock that is synchronized with the clock of the client. The client monitors the rate at which data is received, compares the rate against the rate at which the data is actually rendered, and adjusts the rate at which the data is actually rendered depending on the comparison.

  • Patent number: 8785842
Abstract: An ion mobility spectrometer has an inlet for an analyte substance opening into an ionization region that produces ions of the substance. Parallel grid electrodes extend laterally across the ion flow path and apply an electric field to the ions that is switchable between a relatively low magnitude alternating field that varies in magnitude over multiple periods and an asymmetric alternating field of sufficiently high magnitude to cause differential mobility effects. A collector collects the passed ions, and an indication of the nature of the analyte substance is produced from the collected ions passed during both the low and high field intervals. Also disclosed is the application of a substantially alternating field between the electrodes, which field varies between a low value and a higher value over a time exceeding that of the alternating period.

  • Publication number: 20140152564
Abstract: A technique involves providing multiple different presentations on a mobile device, and switching between the different presentations depending upon the orientation of the mobile device. For example, a first presentation could include a scripted action, which may include recorded speech or used concurrently with a speaker, and a second presentation that enables free play within a model. When the mobile device is held in a first orientation, the scripted action is used to present a pitch, lesson, or the like. When the mobile device is held in a second orientation, the free play enables a user of the mobile device to illustrate reactions within a model by way of example or in response to questions that can most effectively be answered within a model.

  • Patent number: 8455816
Abstract: A detection system comprises a housing having a sample inlet and a gas outlet, and a preconcentrator. The preconcentrator can include a microelectromechanical system (MEMS) configured to accumulate or release a dopant at selected times, and can be located inside or outside the housing. The detection system can include an ion mobility spectrometer, a mass spectrometer, or a combination thereof. A method of analyzing a substance comprises supplying a sample gas or vapor comprising the substance, accumulating a dopant in a first preconcentrator, releasing the dopant at selected times from the preconcentrator to an area containing the sample, ionizing the substance to generate detectable species, separating the detectable species, and determining the detectable species by a detection unit. The system and method allow the rapid introduction and removal of dopant to facilitate fast and accurate identification of the sample.

  • Publication number: 20130056632
Abstract: A field asymmetric ion mobility spectrometer (FAIMS) has an analyte ion source assembly by which an analyte substance is ionized and supplied to the inlet of the spectrometer. The ion source assembly has an upstream source of clean, dry air and two ion sources of opposite polarity arranged at the same distance along the flow path. The ion sources are arranged so that the overall charge of the plasma produced is substantially neutral. The analyte substance is admitted via an inlet downstream of the ion sources and flows into a reaction region of enlarged cross section to slow the flow and increase the time for which the analyte molecules are exposed to the plasma.

  • Patent number: RE44010
Abstract: The present invention provides a base station architecture that is modular in configuration, lowering the initial cost of implementing a new CDMA telecommunication system for a defined geographical region while allowing for future capacity. The scalable architecture is assembled from a digital base station unit that is configured to support a plurality of simultaneous wireless calls connecting to a conventional public switched telephone network. For initial startup, two base station units are deployed for redundancy in case of a single failure. Additional base station units may be added when the need arises for extra traffic capacity. If sectorization is required, the base station units may be directionally oriented. Coupled to and remote from each base station unit are two amplified antenna modules that contain an omni-directional or an external directional antenna, a high power RF amplifier for transmitted frequencies and a low noise amplifier for received frequencies.
