  • Patent number: 8453957
Abstract: A yarn package halter comprises a frame for supporting a series of contact members that are used to maintain slight contact with the base or back portion of a yarn package during an unwinding operation as part of a textile manufacturing process. In a preferred embodiment, the contact members are elastic cords, which serve to hold the yarn package together in order to prevent the yarn package from unraveling, which can lead to entanglements and other processing problems. The frame member is structured so that the contact members form a cone shape or a partial cone shape, and this arrangement allows the contact members to maintain slight contact throughout the manufacturing process, even as the size of the yarn package is reduced during the unwinding operation.

  • Patent number: 7000865
Abstract: A snap-on ball tensioning device for attachment to a right-angled post having a ball tension portion through which a yarn is fed with a post engaging surface. A connecting portion projects integrally from the ball tension portion, and leg portion extends from the connecting portion with a post engaging surface parallel with the ball tension portion post engaging surface for engagement on a leg of the right-angled post. A retaining lip is formed at the outer end of the leg portion post engaging surface and a retaining rib projects from the leg portion at a spacing inwardly from the retaining lip, with the lip and rib serving to properly position and retain the device against lateral movement on the leg of the post.

  • Patent number: 6945490
Abstract: A traveling yarn tension compensating system having a pair of vertically disposed, horizontally spaced ball-type yarn tensioning units and a yarn tension compensating device disposed therebetween. The device has a yarn engaging element with a yarn engaging surface that is downwardly convex for engaging a yarn thereunder. The surface is fixed so as not to rotate or otherwise move in the direction of travel of the yarn and is made of a material that imposes a tension increasing frictional drag on the traveling yarn. The surface engaging element is mounted to be freely movable vertically in response to tension in the traveling yarn. The convex shape of the yarn engaging surface results in a greater extent of surface engagement of the yarn when the surface engaging element is in a lower position resulting from lesser tension in the yarn and at which position it deflects the yarn downwardly over the yarn guides.

  • Patent number: 5820050
Abstract: An adjustable yarn tensioning device for maintaining generally uniform tension in a running textile yarn that runs through a ball seat so that a ball on the seat applies a gravitational tensioning force to the running yarn. The ball seat is formed in a depending cup that is selectively rotated to align with any one of a plurality of chambers through which the yarn travels to a common outlet. The chambers contain different size or weight ball combinations so that alignments can be selected to provide a desired tension. In addition to a preferred embodiment in which the cup rotates under the chambers, the device may be formed for sliding of the cup longitudinally under a straight line arrangement of the chambers.
