Patent number: 8125912Abstract: In ATM networks, digital data in ATM cells are sent to a destination node over more than one transmission link in round robin fashion. This is called inverse multiplexing. At connection start-up, the source node informs the destination node of the specific round robin fashion of the transmission links so that the ATM cells are reassembled in a proper sequential order. Inverse multiplexing control cells are used to communicate between the source node and destination node for connectivity testing of transmission links. Cell stuffing is also provided in one embodiment to accommodate non-synchronized links among transmission links. In a particular embodiment, two consecutive control cells indicate a stuffing cell. A start-up procedure is described when not all the transmission links are usable.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2009Date of Patent: February 28, 2012Assignee: Ericsson ABInventor: Richard Vallee

Publication number: 20070213286Abstract: The invention provides antagonists and agonists of dynein mediated activity, for example specific inhibitory RNAs and dominant negative cDNAs which function as antagonists of LIS1 and dynein, and compositions comprising such antagonist and agonists. Provided are also methods for treating unwanted cell proliferation of neural progenitor cells such as cancers of the CNS, including gliomas, by administering the antagonists of the invention.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 6, 2006Publication date: September 13, 2007Applicant: The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New YorkInventors: Richard Vallee, Peter Canoll, Jin-Wu Tsai, James Goldman

Patent number: 6853694Abstract: A combiner for use in a spatial diversity radio receiver which receives multiple data signals through spaced apart antennae. The combiner includes a receiving component configured for receiving strength-indicative signals, each strength-indicative signal being indicative of the strength of one of the received data signals, and demodulated data signals. A control signal generating component configured for generating control signals generates control signals responsive to the strength-indicative signals. A combining component configured for combining signals combines, in linear proportions determined by the control signals, those of the demodulated data signals which are both above a predetermined strength threshold level (“combiner threshold”) and differ in strength by less than a predetermined margin of preferably between 3 dB and 12 dB (e.g. 6 dB) to provide a combined output data signal. When more than the margin separates the signal strengths, only the strongest signal is used.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2000Date of Patent: February 8, 2005Assignee: Dataradio Inc.Inventors: André Beaudin, Richard Vallée, Michel D. Patent number: 6151355Abstract: A modem unit, typically a wireless modem unit, has a bidirectional digital data port, a modem, a transceiver, and a microcontroller programmed to control the unit according to a control program. The modem unit has a command mode, and the microcontroller is programmed to recognize certain commends by means of a prefix as remote commands and retransmit them to a remote modem unit rather than acting on them locally. The microcontroller is also programmed to monitor operating parameters of the modem unit and optionally to insert data relating to these parameters into a prefix to data strings transmitted by the modem unit and strip such prefixes from data strings received by the modem unit. The microcontroller controls switches which determine the routing of data between the port, the modem and the microcontroller so that the above functions may be implemented.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 1997Date of Patent: November 21, 2000Assignee: DataRadio Inc.Inventors: Richard Vallee, Claude F. Patent number: 6128280Abstract: An apparatus for changing bandwidth loading by a bandwidth change amount in a communications interface having elastic and non-elastic call connections where the elastic and non-elastic call connections have associated current cell rates and equivalent cell rates respectively. The apparatus includes a processor programmed to determine whether the bandwidth change amount is negative or positive. When the bandwidth change amount is negative the processor reduces the current cell rate of each elastic connection and releases at least some non-elastic connections such that the current cell rate of each elastic connection is reduced and the non-elastic connections are released until the total of the current cell rates of the elastic connections and the equivalent cell rates of the non-elastic connections have been reduced by at least the bandwidth change amount. When the bandwidth change amount is positive, the processor increase the current cell rate of each elastic connection and restores non-elastic connections.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 1997Date of Patent: October 3, 2000Assignee: Nortel Networks CorporationInventors: Bilel Nouri Jamoussi, Richard Vallee, Darren Frederick Toop

Patent number: 6002670Abstract: In ATM networks, digital data in ATM cells are sent to a destination node over a connection made up of more than one transmission link in round robin fashion. This is called inverse multiplexing. Suitable transmission links are selected among a plurality of provisionable transmission links according to some selection criteria.
