Patent number: 4846078Abstract: An article combined with other parts which assemble into an items of furniture, the article constituting a spacer of extruded aluminum having a cylindrical bore therethrough and, as seen in cross-section, grooves outboard of such bore which are right angles to each other. Bores of aligned spacers receive posts and outboard legs therein define grooves which receive vertical panels with horizontal members between spacers, such horizontal members having openings which are aligned with the bores to receive vertical pipe. The vertical pipe thereby aligns the spacers, horizontal members and indirectly the vertical members. In one embodiment, L-shaped portions formed in the extruded spaces opposite the legs define further grooves which permit the use of connecting clips between adjacent shelves. Additional spacers having further grooves to provide midway and central aligned supports for larger shelves are also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 1988Date of Patent: July 11, 1989Inventor: Richard W. Janson

Patent number: 4318252Abstract: A joist or truss assembly adapted for supporting a grid system which is installed under a stage ceiling combined with supporting columns. The truss has a number of vertically disposed diaphragms which are received and bolted rigidly to upper and lower chords to form the truss. The upper chord has two spaced-apart arms extending upwardly and outwardly from an upper aspect of its central connection portion and which define between them an upper groove which has a vertical cross-section configuration of an upright "T". The upper portions of the chord's arms are horizontal, extending both outwardly and inwardly, to define a slot which provides access centrally into the groove. The lower chord is identical to the upper chord but is rigidly connected to the diaphragms in an inverted condition whereby it exposes at its bottom a lower groove having a vertical cross-section configuraton of an inverted "T".Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 1980Date of Patent: March 9, 1982Inventor: Richard W. Patent number: 4285095Abstract: A supporting grid system for installation under a stage ceiling which includes a plurality of struts suspended from the stage ceiling. Each strut has a centrally vertically disposed I-beam portion and a pair of spaced-apart upper arms extending upwardly and outwardly from the upper aspect of the central portion and a further pair of spaced-apart lower arms extending downwardly and outwardly from the central portion. Both pairs of arms define cruciform-shaped grooves, such grooves being identical but opposed. The strut is integral and formed from extruded aluminum. It is normally secured in place by hanger rods connected to the ceiling of the stage through support members having a horizontal flange and a support part of cruciform-shaped cross-section to mate with and be received slideably within the cruciform-shaped groove defined at the top of the strut.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 1979Date of Patent: August 25, 1981Inventor: Richard W. Janson

Patent number: 4166306Abstract: A curtain rod assembly manufactured primarily from extruded aluminum components, the curtain rod defining an elongated cruciform groove in its upper portion to receive therein a like shaped support part, a horizontal flange being provided at the rod's lower portion to receive wheeled curtain carriers, the rod being symmetrical about a vertical plane. In a modification of the rod, instead of a vertically elongated cruciform groove, a vertical plate-liked portion is provided wherein such upper vertical portion is fastened through horizontal bolts to an overhead support, a flange on the lower aspect with a horizontal cross piece defining tracks for the wheeled curtain carriers as in the first modification, this second modification also being symmetrical about a vertical plane.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 1977Date of Patent: September 4, 1979Inventor: Richard W. Janson

Patent number: 4134177Abstract: A framework in a counterweight assembly for carrying weight which counterbalances the weight of stage curtains and the like, the framework having upper and lower identical extruded bars, each including a cylindrical portion on one longitudinal edge and a bifurcated portion on the opposite longitudinal edge provided with outwardly extending flanges, the bifurcated portion defining a continuous groove. The groove faces inwardly and the cylindrical portion faces outwardly with the upper and lower bars being connected by a pair of side rods, also extruded aluminum, each side rod including a tongue along a longitudinal edge adapted to be received by the aforesaid groove and a guide being provided on the opposite longitudinal edge, such guide being received in a vertical guide beam for guiding the framework in its vertical movement.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 1977Date of Patent: January 16, 1979Inventor: Richard W. Patent number: 3975792Abstract: An assembly comprising a rod and parts for supporting drapery and the like, the rod having two identical tracks which extend longitudinally and receive movable hangers. The rod, composed of extruded aluminum, has the same cross-section throughout. The tracks are of rectangular cross section with a continuous slot along a bottom side, such side having a shorter width than the height of the vertical sidewalls of each track. A horizontal bar connects the tracks about midway on the adjacent sidewalls of the track, the bar having substantially the same width as each track. The bar is provided on its top and bottom with grooves of a V-configuration in cross-section, the grooves extending longitudinally and being centered relative to the width of the bar and providing for the centering of a drill bit for forming an opening for receiving fastening members.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 1974Date of Patent: August 24, 1976Inventor: Richard W.
