  • Patent number: 4794495
Abstract: A headlamp assembly having a retainer ring for supporting a lamp unit and which includes a level device that allows the lamp unit to be readily aimed about a horizontal axis.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 17, 1987
Date of Patent: December 27, 1988
    Assignee: General Motors Corporation
Inventors: David R. McMahan, Richard W. Nicholas, Thomas E. Persing, John D. Geddie
  • Patent number: 4639840
Abstract: A headlamp assembly provided with a retainer for maintaining a headlamp unit in an adjustable support bracket and having a rim that provides an aiming surface for the aiming pads of the headlamp unit. The support bracket carries spring means which engages a rear portion of the headlamp unit and biases the aiming pads of the headlamp unit into engagement with the rim with the result that when a replacement lamp unit is mounted in the support bracket, the replacement lamp unit is automatically aimed by the retainer.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 10, 1985
Date of Patent: January 27, 1987
    Assignee: General Motors Corporation
Inventors: David R. McMahan, Richard W. Nicholas
  • Patent number: 4599681
Abstract: A headlamp assembly which includes a support bracket that carries a pair of headlamp units in side-by-side relationship and is attached to a support housing at three pivot points so as to allow simultaneous adjustable positioning of the headlamp units about a horizontal axis or a vertical axis.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 10, 1985
Date of Patent: July 8, 1986
    Assignee: General Motors Corp.
Inventors: David R. McMahan, Richard W. Nicholas
  • Patent number: 4414614
Abstract: A spring clip which is removably attached to a retainer member for maintaining a headlamp within a housing and includes a pair of leg sections carried by the housing that cooperate with a flange on the retainer member for locking the retainer member to the housing.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 17, 1982
Date of Patent: November 8, 1983
    Assignee: General Motors Corporation

  • Patent number: 4358917
Abstract: An improved extruded resilient flush-look window molding adapted for pre-attachment to a glass plate for concealing the gap between a body panel window opening and the edge of the glass plate. The molding has a stem portion with first and second self-biased retaining legs on one side thereof, adapted to engage the glass edge and a diverging third leg extending from the stem portion opposite side supporting an integral arcuate sectioned trim strip in cantilever fashion on the diverging leg upper end. The trim strip projects inwardly to overlie the gap and the molding stem portion. The divergent leg is self-biased for cammed inward flexing during insertion of the glass plate. Thus, the trim strip self-adjusts inwardly so as to maintain its engagement with the plate outer surface while accommodating production tolerance gaps.
