  • Patent number: 6606491
Abstract: A dual-mode communication system made up of an AMPS network and a GSM network provides for communication to and from dual-mode terminals equipped with corresponding SIM cards. The mobile terminals store a terminal-based ESN, and the SIM cards store a SIM-based ESN and MIN. The dual-mode system uses the terminal-based ESN and MIN for registration in the AMPS network. For authentication purposes, however, the dual-mode system uses the SIM-based ESN for key-based authentication in the AMPS network.

  • Patent number: 6108542
Abstract: The present invention is related to a method and arrangement in a mobile station operating in standby mode and monitoring a first control channel in a first radio communication network. The transmission of messages (703-708) on the first control channel occurs in periodic occuring frames (700). Each frame (700) comprises a first sequence of messages (701), in which no message is addressed to a specific mobile station, and a second sequence of messages (702) that may comprise messages addressed to specific mobile stations. The mobile station determines for at least a first frame (700) a time period during which no part of a message, belonging to the second sequence of messages (702), will be transmitted. Said time period is used by the mobile station to perform actions other than receiving radio signals carrying the first control channel, e.g. entering sleep mode or scanning for control channels in a second radio communication network.

  • Patent number: 5107713
Abstract: A microprocessor controlled air sampling pump utilizes a PWM controlled DC electric motor for regulating air flow generated by a diaphragm-type air pump. The control system regulates air flow as a function of RPM of the motor by establishing a table of values which relate motor RPM to air flow rates. The control system maintains RPM at the desired value but includes a control loop which senses deviations in RPM and adjusts the PWM signals to the motor to regulate RPM. The system also senses large changes in RPM and treats such changes as blockages in the air sampling pump lines which prevent accurate environmental sampling. This system enters a cycling mode which turns the pump motor off for different time intervals until the detected blockage has been removed or until a predetermined time has expired. This procedure minimizes battery drain in the event of blockage of the air sampling pump lines.
