Abstract: A method and apparatus for teaching and learning reading are disclosed. The apparatus is a group of universally connectable blocks and may include a primer having intelligible reading units composed of reading indicia. Each block has at least three faces, and each face of a given block the same reading indicia type. Each block has a color that corresponds to the reading indicia type. The primer's reading indicia are colored to correspond to the blocks bearing the same reading indicia type. The method comprises reading the primer, reading selected reading indicia in the primer, and locating blocks having the selected reading indicia. An intelligible reading unit comprised of the selected reading indicia in the primer is read and assembled from the blocks. Two blocks are selected, having the identified reading indicia, and connected. The color or selected indicia are viewed to determine whether the indicia form the selected intelligible reading unit.

Abstract: A clamshell blister package permits packaging of activity pieces with a book in an activity kit. The package is reclosable and see-through and extends through and is connected to the cover for holding the activity pieces such that the package may be removed (and later replaced) so as not to interfere with the pages when the book is being used. The package is configured to friction fit into an aperture in the front cover of the book so that the package can be removed and reinstalled into the cover. The package includes a top and a bottom connected together by a hinge. The bottom includes an integrally formed platform which releasably engages a ledge and ledge wall of the top for holding the top closed onto the bottom in a reclosable fashion. The top defines a receptacle into which the activity pieces are stored when not in use, within or outside the book.

Abstract: An assembly for teaching mathematical concepts includes a plurality of interlocking components, each having at least one connecting end so that the components can be combined in any order or length. Each component is assigned a mathematical value according to its length, and this value may be indicated by indicia on its face or by color coding. A base is also provided for retaining the columns of components in vertical formations. Means are provided on the platform of the base for engaging the bottom component in each column.
