  • Patent number: 6373833
Abstract: In a TDMA cellular mobile communications system the radio interface between a mobile station and a base station consists of traffic frames which include several time slots in which in one time slot of an uplink direction frame the mo-bile stations can transmit in an access burst a request to the network to be assigned a radio connection for traffic. A repeater is added in the system through which the radio connection between the base station and the mobile station can pass, if necessary. The repeater converts the carrier wave frequency used by the base station to the carrier wave frequency used by the mobile station, and the carrier wave frequency used by the mobile station to the carrier wave frequency used by the base station. The repeater adds its own burst to the access burst of the mobile station, the said burst including the information which identifies the repeater.

  • Patent number: 5920553
Abstract: A base station equipment, mobile station and data transmission method in a digital CDMA cellular radio network, in which base stations communicate with mobile stations located in an area. Each mobile station can have a duplex connection with more than one of the base stations simultaneously. Signals transmitted from more than one of the base stations can be combined in a respective mobile station. A signal received from a mobile station in more than one of the base stations can be combined in a base station controller. In the network, traffic channel transmission is carried out by using a predetermined frame structure. Cellular network frames of different types are transmitted between respective ones of the base stations and the mobile stations over radio paths. To simplify the structure of the base station equipment, the type of frame being transmitted is indicated by a predetermined frame identifier.

  • Patent number: 5862124
Abstract: Interference in a cellular CDMA network due to mobile stations causing multiple use of one carrier frequency in neighboring cells is cancelled. A hard handover is implemented by defining the phase of a spread spectrum code in a signal transmitted from a base station to a mobile followed by measurement of signal strength in the mobile. Thereafter, the result is reported to the CDMA network, inferring whether the mobile interferes with the base station of the neighboring cells. If interference is present, the surrounding base stations are informed about the mobile station channel used, and this information is taken into account in the receivers of signals transmitted by other mobiles within the cell. The measurement results of the mobile are provided as initial values to the parameters required by the initialization of the interference cancellation routines performed in a neighboring base station.

  • Patent number: 5845208
Abstract: A receiver, and a method for estimating received power in a cellular radio system having in each cell at least one base station communicating with mobile stations within its coverage area. The mobile stations measure strength of the signal received from a base station, and report the measurement results to that base station. To improve power adjustment, a model describing the dynamic behavior of the signal is created for the received power on each connection. The model is utilized for power adjustment, as well as for making handover decisions.

  • Patent number: 5825758
Abstract: A method for improving the delectability of a broadcast control channel of base in a radio system in which the transmitting and receiving frequency resources of respective transceiver units have been divided on the TDMA/FDMA principle into channels. The base stations have equipment for establishing radio connections to radio units in their respective radio coverage areas, and respective transmitters for transmitting a broadcast control channel. At least two of the base stations are arranged to transmit the broadcast control channel by utilizing the same predetermined frequency channel. In order to reduce interference, the transmission power used when transmitting on the predetermined frequency channel by the transmitters of the respective base stations is adjusted so as to be lower in those time slots in which the broadcast control channel is not transmitted, than it is in that or those time slots in which the broadcast control channel is transmitted.

  • Patent number: 5652748
Abstract: A mobile station, and a method for making a handover in a CDMA cellular radio system, which includes in each cell at least one base station connected to the mobile stations in the cell. The connection includes both a traffic channel and one or more control channels. The transmissions of the base stations are not synchronized with each other. A mobile station, after having established a simultaneous connection with two or more of the base stations while making a handover, transmits to the base stations using the same spreading code. The signals received by the base stations are combined in a base station controller, or the like. The base stations with which the mobile station communicates simultaneously, transmit to the mobile station each using a different spreading code.

  • Patent number: 5603095
Abstract: A radio system providing a wireless local loop, including a fixed network having at least one exchange, at least one subscriber database and base stations, and subscriber terminals communicating with the fixed network via a radio path. Each subscriber terminal includes a radio transceiver, a power source with a battery backup unit, a measurer for measuring the signal level and signal quality on the radio path between a base station and the subscriber terminal, and a measurer for measuring the charge level of the battery backup unit of the power source. The subscriber terminal transmits the test results concerning at least one of the battery backup unit and the power supply to the fixed network in a predetermined report message at predetermined intervals or in response to a predetermined test result.
