Abstract: An agent that receives an input event and outputs Emotion_Response messages based on personality trait indices and emotional state indices is disclosed. The agent has a social response generator that receives an input event, an output from an emotional state register and an output from a predefined personality trait register, and updates at least one of a current state of the emotional state register or a Social_Response message stored an event buffer. The agent has an emotion generator that outputs an Emotion_Response message based on at least one of the Social_Response message stored in the event buffer, one or more outputs of the predefined personality trait register, or one or more outputs of the emotional state register. The agent operates within an environment server that provides contextual environment that facilitates interaction amongst a group of agents, which receive input events from the contextual environment and outputs emotional response messages thereto.

Abstract: A method for facilitating the learning of a language, involves concurrently displaying a video and subtitles corresponding to the video, where the displayed subtitles include selectable sentences, obtaining a selection from a user, including a selected sentence of the selectable sentences, subsequently displaying the selected sentence for selection of a word, obtaining a word selection of the selected sentence from the user, searching for and displaying at least one description including the user selected word.

Abstract: A socially intelligent agent (SIA) platform enables interactions with various different applications, thereby enabling easier programming of various applications and injecting socially intelligent agents thereto. An application adapter is provided to enable interaction between any application and the SIA platform. In operation, the user provides input via the user interface and the input is applied to the application via the application interface. The application processes the input and provides a social event indication to the SIA platform, via the application adapter. The SIA platform then process the social event and output an behavioral response. The motional response is sent to the application via the application adapter. The application processes the behavioral response and, when proper, output appropriate response to a user interface.
