Publication number: 20140171197Abstract: A system for enabling tournament gaming provides a plurality of gaming machines and a tournament controller in communication with the gaming machines. At least a first gaming machine enables play of a first base game and at least a second gaming machine enables play of a second base game. The first base game has a first set of parameters and the second base game has a second set of parameters. The first base game with the first set of parameters is a different game theme from the second base game with the second set of parameters. The base game play data from each gaming machine is converted into a normalized tournament score that is designed to substantially equalize differences resulting from the base games that have differing sets of parameters, wherein calculation of the normalized tournament score uses monitored data spanning multiple base game plays.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 17, 2014Publication date: June 19, 2014Applicant: Bally Gaming, Inc.Inventors: Bryan M. Patent number: 8715084Abstract: A method is disclosed herein for displaying winning and non-winning game results in a traditional gaming environment. The system uses an overlay game to present an entertaining display to a player upon the occurrence of a win or trigger event. An overlay game has limited capabilities and additionally is engineered to be usable on a variety of gaming machines. To be usable on a variety of gaming machines, the overlay game is intentionally kept simple; in one case, it comprises a visual display that is shown to a player upon the occurrence of a trigger event. In another embodiment, it requires a simple button press to start the overlay game. The overlay games are downloaded on an as-needed basis, run on the gaming machine, and then discarded.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 2010Date of Patent: May 6, 2014Assignee: Bally Gaming, Inc.Inventors: Robert A. Patent number: 8713897Abstract: A system and method for inspecting a filled prescription order is described. The prescription order includes a first plurality of tablets that is different from a second plurality of tablets. Additionally, the first plurality of tablets has a particular shape and a color that is different from the second plurality of tablets. The system and method generates an order that is communicated to a filling system. A code is then generated at the filling system when the filling system can fill the order. An automated inspection at visual wavelengths is performed for each of the pouches at an inspection station. The automated inspection at visual wavelengths inspects a color and a shape of each tablet. The method then proceeds to scan the code at the inspection station to verify that the correct pouches are associated with the tablets that correspond to the prescription order.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 2012Date of Patent: May 6, 2014Assignee: Edge Medical Properties, LLCInventors: Robert A. Patent number: 8715064Abstract: A gaming system and method that includes a dynamic paytable is described. The method operates by enabling a game session that includes a plurality of game events. After each game event, the player is given an opportunity to terminate or continue the game session. The player can use skill to determine whether to terminate or continue the game session. A paytable determines whether a prize is awarded to said player after each game event. In one embodiment, the dynamic paytable is displayed on a player interface. During the game session, the player may terminate the game session before the remaining game events are completed. The player is provided with an opportunity to view the paytable and can generate a strategy to maximize the prize awarded or minimize losses generated during the game session.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 2009Date of Patent: May 6, 2014Assignee: Bally Gaming, Inc.Inventors: Robert A. Patent number: 8678706Abstract: A surface water heating system for irrigation is described. The irrigation apparatus comprises an irrigation manifold, a heat exchanger, a first conduit system, and a second conduit system. A geothermal heated fluid, e.g. water, flows through the first conduit system. A first pump extracts the geothermal heated water from a geothermal source and conducts the heated water through the heat exchanger, and returns the geothermal water, now cooled, to the geothermal water source. Surface water flows through the second conduit system. A second pump extracts water from a higher quality water resource such as a surface water resource and conducts the illustrative surface water through the heat exchanger. Subsequently, the surface water is delivered to the irrigation manifold. Within the heat exchanger, heat is transferred from the geothermal heated water to the higher quality water resource. The geothermal heated water does not come into contact with the illustrative surface water within the irrigation apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 2011Date of Patent: March 25, 2014Assignee: Edge TechnologyInventor: Robert A. Publication number: 20140045585Abstract: A system and method for playing component games in a gaming environment, where a component game is a game in which a physical prize, the prize to be won, is rendered in a graphical format and further divided into components (clearly recognizable parts of the graphical image). Individual component prizes are designed to be won by a player during individual game plays, that is, upon the occurrence of specific winning events while playing a chance or fixed-pool game. To win the component game prize, each of the components must be won and the combination redeemed. The component prizes are not intended to be separately redeemable game credits. In particular, the player may play for regular game credits or may choose to play for component prizes or portions thereof, not both. Component games create a highly enticing situation where players can be rewarded for long term play over a variety of machines.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 21, 2013Publication date: February 13, 2014Applicant: Bally Gaming, Inc.Inventor: Robert A. Patent number: 8647199Abstract: Presented is a system and method for generating bingo game bonuses that are non-banked, for use with pooled bingo games. The system generates pools of money for use in bingo games by deducting a percentage of the amount used to purchase bingo cards (in the present invention, virtual bingo cards). Each bingo game automatically enrolls active players in one or more bonus games, exemplified by “4 corners,” where the amounts to be given away to players as bonuses are calculated to be equal, over time, to the amount taken in from players buying bingo cards. The house has no stake in the bonus awards.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 2010Date of Patent: February 11, 2014Assignee: Bally Gaming, Inc.Inventors: Robert A. Luciano, Jr., Warren R. White
