  • Publication number: 20180082447
Abstract: Some embodiments of the invention provide a method of determining a material characteristic of material in a sample by iterative tomographic reconstruction. The method conducts one or more X-ray tomography scans of a sample, and then determines one or more estimated material characteristics, such as atomic number and density, for multiple volume elements in the sample using a tomographic reconstruction algorithm. These estimated material characteristics are then modified by reference to stored known material characteristic data. Preferably, determining the composition of the sample volume during reconstruction includes segmenting the sample into regions of common composition, the segmenting being performed during iterative reconstruction instead of being based on the voxel characteristics determined upon the completion of iterative reconstruction.

  • Patent number: 9613587
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for enhancing display viewability in high ambient conditions without excessive increase in power consumption. In one aspect, a controller associated with the display device can be configured to obtain an indication of ambient light conditions from an ambient light sensor or from a host device hosting the display device. Upon receiving an image frame, the controller can derive a set of color subfields and determine a bit-depth value for each color subfield based on the obtained indication of current ambient light conditions and mapping data which maps ranges of ambient light to respective bit-depth values on a color subfield by color subfield basis. The controller can then generate a number of subframes for each color subfield based on the respective determined bit-depth value and cause the generated subframes to be displayed.

  • Publication number: 20160258583
Abstract: This disclosure provides devices, apparatuses and methods of providing an optical filter with quantum dot films for converting a first wavelength of light to a second wavelength of light. The optical filter includes a plurality of high refractive index layers and a plurality of low refractive index layers alternatingly disposed between the high refractive index layers. Quantum dots are dispersed in either the high refractive index layers or the low refractive index layers. In some implementations, the quantum dots are capable of absorbing blue light and emitting green light. Thus, the optical filter can be part of a red-green-blue lighting device that includes a first blue LED optically coupled with the optical filter to produce green light, a red LED and a second blue LED.

  • Publication number: 20090323281
Abstract: Controlling an airflow passing into an electronic component cabinet includes passing an airflow into the electronic component cabinet through a first passage having a first filter, sensing a parameter of the airflow passing through the first passage, detecting a change in the parameter of the first airflow associated with a flow restriction at the first filter, and shifting a first flap from a first position allowing the airflow to pass unrestricted through the first passage, to a second position, wherein the first flap creates a flow restriction for the airflow passing though the first passage, and triggers an actuation mechanism based on the change in parameter of the first airflow. Controlling the airflow further includes opening a second flap that exposes a second passage having a second filter based on the triggering of the switch, and passing an airflow into the electronic component cabinet through the second passage.

  • Patent number: 7621446
Abstract: A convertible self-checkout system includes a base and a stand rotatably mounted to the base. The stand includes an input/output device facing in a first direction and a product scanner, and the stand is positionable relative to the base in at least a first angular position and a second angular position. The input/output device is an interactive video display, and the interactive video display has a first mode corresponding to the first angular position and a second mode corresponding to the second angular position. A sensor determines an angular position of the stand relative to the base and communicates the angular position to the interactive video display. The stand further includes a video display facing in a second direction substantially opposite from the first direction.
