  • Patent number: 11689088
Abstract: An electric motor with a movable permanent magnet stator is disclosed. The electric motor includes a rotor with an armature having a plurality of windings about the armature. A plurality of stator magnets are disposed about the rotor. The plurality of stator magnets a selectively positionable between a proximal position, in close proximity to the rotor, and a distal position, away from the rotor. An actuator is coupled to the plurality of stator magnets, the actuator operable to position the plurality of stator magnets between the proximal position and the distal position. The output of the electric motor is controlled by moving the stator magnets towards and away from rotor, rather than applying varying amounts of electricity to the rotor.

  • Patent number: 4880064
Abstract: An improved torque control and fluid shut-off mechanism for a fluid operated tool includes a bit holder and driving clutch member which are connected for uniform cojoint axial movement and independent rotary movement. Spring biased ball bearings provides for cojoint rotary movement which is overcome when the spring biasing force associated with the driving clutch member exceeds a threshold level. A locking sleeve fitted over the driving clutch member cooperates with a control rod for the fluid inlet to the rotary vane air motor to control initiation of operation, termination of operation, and resetting of the tool.

  • Patent number: 4243111
Abstract: A fluid-actuated shut-off valve for a fluid-powered tool such as a wrench including a spool valve urged to open position by a spring and having respective valve-operating surfaces subject to both regulated inlet and exhaust pressures in the tool. The valve operating surfaces and spring are arranged so the valve is thrown to its closed position by a combination of a constant regulated control pressure and the drop in exhaust pressure as the tool motor slows down and stalls under load.
