  • Patent number: 9086214
Abstract: A system for providing thermal protection for an LED light module and methods for manufacturing the same are described herein. The thermally protected LED light module may include a heat sink assembly thermally coupled to an LED light source, and a thermal protector. The thermal protector may be connected to the heat sink assembly by a mechanical fastener. Further, the thermal protector is electrically coupled to the LED light source and a power source where the thermal protector breaks the power provided to the LED light source from the power source when the thermal protector detects heat at or above a threshold temperature.

  • Patent number: 8979329
Abstract: A curved wall, square-shaped reflector assembly includes multiple reflector wall sections and multiple enclosure wall sections. Each reflector wall section is slidably coupled to a respective enclosure wall section by positioning a top reflector flange of the reflector wall section above a top support flange of the enclosure wall section and aligning alignment features on the enclosure wall section with holes on the reflector wall section. In addition, a bottom flange of the reflector wall section is positioned below a bottom edge of the enclosure wall section, thereby providing a consistent tension along the wall surface of the reflector wall section. Each enclosure wall section includes flange members on opposing side edges. Each of the combined reflector-enclosure wall sections are positioned orthogonal to one-another and coupled together along the adjacent flanges from the adjacent enclosure wall sections with rivets. The assembly reduces light leak without damaging the reflector surface.

  • Patent number: 8602602
Abstract: An LED downlight provides a more evenly distributed light output. The LED downlight includes an LED light source, such as one or more LEDs, LED die packages, or LED chip on board modules, an upper reflector, a lower reflector disposed below the upper reflector, and a lens disposed between the upper reflector and the lower reflector. The lens includes several features that help disperse light emitted by the LED light source. The lens includes a diffusion element, such as a pigment, bulk scattering, prismatic, inlays, or another method for diffusing light through a lens. The lens is curved in a concave manner when viewed from the light source. The curve of the lens can be tangent to the physical cutoff of the lower reflector to more evenly distribute light emitted by the LED light source and to improve the visual effect of an evenly luminous lens.

  • Patent number: 8523409
Abstract: Improved installation features for recessed light fixtures including downlights are provided. The recessed light fixture includes a housing and a lighting module removably attachable to the housing. The lighting module includes a flexible conduit connector that provides a pathway for electrical connections from outside the lighting module to access the inner portion of the lighting module. The conduit connector is disposed on an angled surface that improves the ease of installation and removal of the lighting module and reduces the required installation space of the recessed light fixture. The housing includes improved torsion spring receivers having angled edges for guiding the torsion spring into the proper position. The torsion spring receivers also include retaining tabs having a curved edge that better holds the torsion spring in place and also provides additional clearance for installing and removing the lighting module.

  • Patent number: 8430533
Abstract: A LED holder includes a planar base member to releasably couple the holder to the heat sink of a luminaire. The LED holder also includes a substrate that is coupled to the planar base member and has one or more LEDs disposed on the substrate and electrically coupled to the substrate. The substrate can be a printed circuit board and the LEDs can be discrete LEDs or an LED package. A cover panel is removably coupled to the planar base member and is designed to prevent access to the substrate and the LEDs when the luminaire powered on. The LED holder can also include a LED cover positioned over the LEDs and within the cover panel to limit access to the top side of the LEDs while permitting light emitted by the LEDs to pass through the LED cover.

  • Patent number: 8047689
Abstract: A lamp subassembly includes an air-tight plate, a mounting lamp holder coupled to the air-tight plate, and a mounting spring coupled to the air-tight plate and the mounting lamp holder. The lamp subassembly is coupled to a trim with the mounting spring and coupled to a lamp with the mounting lamp holder to form a lighting fixture. The air-tight plate is coupled to a top opening located on the trim and forms an air-tight interface therebetween. The mounting lamp holder positions the lamp at least partially within the trim. The air leakage through the air-tight interface is equal to or less than two cubic feet per minute at a seventy-five Pascal pressure difference.
