  • Patent number: 8149269
Abstract: An Emergency Services Application Server (ES-AS) that obtains routing instructions for both VoIP-originated and non-VoIP-originated calls to emergency services numbers (e.g., 9-1-1). If the emergency request is a VoIP-originated call and includes a location object, the ES-AS queries its database using the location object to obtain routing information. If a location object is not provided, the ES-AS queries a location information server to obtain a location object. The ES-AS then uses the location object to query its database. If the call is originated by legacy user equipment, the ES-AS accesses a legacy automatic location information system to obtain location information and the associated PSAP. The ES-AS then queries its database with the returned information to refine routing information needed to route the call to the identified PSAP.

  • Patent number: 7747695
Abstract: A system, method and computer readable medium for providing automated notifications generates a list of recipients. The notification preferences of the recipients is determined and a notification generated and formatted in accordance with the recipients' preferences is communicated to the recipient. The notification preferences include a notification type, such as voice, email, SMS etc. The notification may be a notification of an overdue debt which provides the recipient with an avenue to make payment of the debt.

  • Patent number: 7200207
Abstract: The invention comprises a communication network that includes a plurality of conforming emergency systems, a packet network, and an emergency services network. The emergency services network includes a plurality of response gateways and a plurality of emergency services. Each of the conforming emergency systems facilitates the establishment of a media channel with one of the response gateways. In any one of the conforming emergency systems, responsive to establishing a media channel over the packet network with a response gateway and responsive to an emergency event (e.g., a 9-1-1 call, a 1-1-2 call, etc), the conforming emergency system transmits a retrieval key for the emergency event over the established media channel to the response gateway. The response gateway transmits a query for information corresponding with the retrieval key.

  • Patent number: 7123693
Abstract: The invention includes an emergency services network comprising a plurality of resources, a plurality of emergency services, and a Service/Name Resolution (SNR) system connected to a transport network. In operation, one of the resources receives a retrieval key for an emergency event from a conforming emergency system. The resource transmits the retrieval key to the transport network. The SNR system receives the retrieval key over the transport network and identifies at least one of the emergency services corresponding with the retrieval key. The SNR system initiates the transfer of the retrieval key to the identified emergency services. The identified emergency services then perform services corresponding with the retrieval key.

  • Publication number: 20040203884
Abstract: A method for determining location of a mobile unit, whether active or idle, of a plurality of communication units in a telecommunication network including at least one mobile service tower or access point for establishing a wireless communication link with the mobile unit includes the steps of: (A) Posing a location query from an originating calling unit in communication with the network specifying the mobile unit. (B) Selected calling sessions with selected communication units are preceded by a plurality of set-up signals for configuring the network for supporting the calling sessions. Routing at least one set-up signal to the mobile unit in response to the location query to alert the mobile signal of the posing. (C) Sending at least one response signal from the mobile unit to the originating calling unit identifying a respective mobile service tower or access point in wireless communication with the mobile unit.

  • Patent number: 6587545
Abstract: A system for providing expanded emergency communication in a telecommunication network including an array of switches, junctions, channels, customer-operated communication devices and service providing stations. The network is connected to facilitate communication among stations using a plurality of milieux. Communication is effected among a service providing station, an emergency complex, an emergency answering position, and an expanded service subscriber. The system comprises: (a) a request acquisition subsystem for receiving emergency requests from a requesting caller; (b) an information store for storing information relating to selected callers; (c) a notification facility for notifying selected subscribers; and (d) a dispatch facility for receiving selected of the information relating to an extant emergency. The system effects transfer of information from the information store to the dispatch facility based upon emergency request information relating to the extant emergency.
