  • Publication number: 20200280871
Abstract: A method performed by a user equipment in a communication system is disclosed in which the user equipment communicates data with a base station using at least one data radio bearer (DRB). The data is communicated using a plurality of data flows that are mapped to a single DRB. Each data flow is configured to have a respective set of quality of service (QoS) characteristics specific to that data flow. The user equipment measures quality of experience (QoE) parameters for the data flows and reports QoE information to the base station based on the measurement of the QoE parameters.

Abstract: A communication system is disclosed in which a base station communicates with user equipment via an associated cell having a system bandwidth. The system bandwidth comprises a bandwidth part having a set of contiguous physical resource blocks. The base station initiates a random access procedure with the user equipment; provides first information identifying a set of frequency resources for an uplink channel; and provides second information identifying at least one specific frequency resource, within said set of frequency resources, for said uplink communication. The first information is provided prior to completion of the random access procedure.

  • Patent number: 10721721
Abstract: A communications system is described that has a base station and a number of user devices, including legacy user devices and non-legacy user devices. The base station generates control data for transmission to the user devices, the control data including common control data for reception and decoding by a plurality of user devices and user specific control data for reception and decoding by a specific user device. The common control data is for reception and decoding by the non-legacy user devices and cannot be decoded by the legacy user devices. • Patent number: 10667255
Abstract: A communication system is disclosed in which a base station communicates with a reduced bandwidth machine-type-communication (MTC) device by dividing the base station's cell bandwidth into non-overlapping band portions, each band portion comprising a respective set of contiguous resource blocks that occupy a frequency bandwidth not exceeding the bandwidth of the MTC device, and each band portion having a respective index for identifying that band portion. The base station obtains: i) an index of a band portion for use by the MTC device; and ii) information for identifying an allocation of at least one resource block within that band portion. The base station generates and signals, to the MTC device, control data for uniquely identifying a position of the allocation of at least one resource block, within said cell bandwidth.

  • Patent number: 10505613
Abstract: A communication system is disclosed in which coordinated multi-point transmissions for a mobile device are carried out in two stages. In the first stage, a central controller obtains Channel State Information (CSI) reports from multiple transmission points, based on which the controller estimates respective data rates for transmissions between each transmission point and the mobile device. The controller determines an active set of transmission points to be associated with the mobile device, and informs the transmission points about the association made. In the second stage, the transmission points included in the active set carry out scheduling for the mobile device independently from each other until the controller updates the active set of transmission points.

  • Publication number: 20190357227
Abstract: A communication system is disclosed in which a base station manages the transmission of on-demand system information to optimise the trade-off between the additional signalling overhead associated with on-demand transmission and the resource usage inefficiencies associated with the sometimes unnecessary transmission of system information on a periodic basis. The base station manages switching from on-demand transmission to periodic transmission, and vice versa, based on one or more utilisation thresholds.

  • Publication number: 20190305917
Abstract: A method of signalling resource allocation data in a communication system which uses a plurality of sub-carriers arranged in a sequence of chunks. An allocation of the sub-carriers for each of a plurality of user devices is received. The received allocations are processed to determine, for each user device, data identifying a start chunk and an end chunk within the sequence of chunks, which depend upon the sub-carriers allocated to the user device. Different resource allocation data is generated for each of the user devices using a predetermined mapping which relates the data identifying the corresponding start chunk and end chunk determined by the processing step to resource allocation data comprising a unique value. The respective resource allocation data is signaled to each of the plurality of user devices.
