  • Patent number: 11937037
Abstract: A housing has a bud portion abutting an elongated stem portion. The bud portion is to fit within an ear. The bud portion has a primary sound outlet at its far end that is to be inserted into an outer ear canal, and abuts the stem portion at its near end. A speaker driver is inside the bud portion. Electronic circuitry inside the housing includes a wireless communications interface to receive audio content over-the-air and in response provides an audio signal to the speaker driver. A rechargeable battery as a power source for the electronic circuitry is located inside a cavity of the stem portion. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

  • Patent number: 9714554
Abstract: A downhole plug and a method of releasing a portion of the plug. The plug has a run-in configuration, a deployed configuration, and a released configuration. The plug includes a mandrel, a bull nose, and a cone and an expandable slip. The expandable slip has an external gripping surface. The plug includes an inner and outer sleeve, where the outer sleeve is concentric around the inner sleeve and the inner sleeve is concentric with the mandrel. The inner sleeve is slidable about but releasingly coupled to the mandrel. The inner sleeve is slidable about the outer sleeve but releasingly coupled to the outer sleeve in both the run-in configuration and in the deployed configuration. The inner sleeve is coupled with the mandrel in the run-in configuration and in the deployed configuration, but uncoupled and slidable about the mandrel in the released configuration.

  • Patent number: 8579022
Abstract: An apparatus for deploying and activating a downhole tool activated by an explosive charge such as a drill pipe cutter or hole puncher. The apparatus includes a sealing member with an external wedge-shaped profile that forms a metal-to-metal partial seal with a profile at the top end of a pipe joint in a drill pipe string. The apparatus includes an impact force absorbing device that maintains a firing rod in a non-actuated position during impact of the apparatus. The apparatus includes a differential pressure piston that actuates at a pre-determined well bore pressure to release the firing rod to activate the downhole tool.

  • Patent number: 6311778
Abstract: A subterranean well tool which is manipulatable by a control mandrel between run-in and set positions within a wellbore having casing includes an assembly which provides a selectively operable lock to prevent premature activation of the assembly from the run-in position towards the set position until a predeterminable compressive load is carried through the well tool by the control mandrel to manipulate the assembly from a first initial position to an intermediate position and thereafter to a final extended position.

  • Patent number: 5634007
Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing direct memory address (DMA) operations between a requestor and responder device by prestoring, for each device, a logical token and offset value which is recognizable by the device as an indicia to identify one or more local memory addresses within the device, and initiating a DMA operation within the requestor device by the requestor device transferring the token and offset value to the responder device, the responder device identifying a responder device local memory address by translation of the token and offset value, and the responder device accessing the identified responder local memory address for data transfer, associated with the token and offset, and the requestor device identifying a requestor device local memory address for completing the data transfer.

  • Patent number: 5159145
Abstract: In the representative embodiments of the several methods and apparatus of the invention, a barrier formed of a low-temperature fusible metal alloy having a selected melting point is arranged between a receptor explosive and a typical electrically-initiated detonator enclosed in an explosion-proof housing for blocking the transmission of detonation forces from the detonator to the receptor explosive until the detonator has been subjected to well bore temperatures which are greater than the melting point of the fusible alloy. By selecting a fusible metal alloy which has a melting point less than the known temperatures of the well bore fluids, when the tool is exposed to those elevated temperatures, the barrier will be predictably transformed to its liquid state thereby allowing the liquid alloy to flow to a non-blocking position away from the detonation path of the donor explosive.

  • Patent number: 5159146
Abstract: In the representative embodiments of the several methods and apparatus of the invention, a barrier formed of a low-temperature fusible metal alloy having a selected melting point greater than the anticipated well bore temperatures is arranged between a receptor explosive and a typical electrically-initiated detonator enclosed in a housing for blocking the transmission of detonation forces from the detonator to the receptor explosive until the barrier has been heated by an electrical heater adjacent to the barrier. By selecting a fusible metal alloy which has a melting point higher than the known temperatures of the well bore fluids, when the tool is exposed to those elevated temperatures, the barrier will be predictably maintained in its solid state to continue blocking the detonation path of the donor explosive if the heater fails thereby allowing the well tool carrying the explosives to be safely recovered from the well bore.

  • Patent number: 5115865
Abstract: In the representative embodiments of the several methods and apparatus of the invention disclosed herein, a movable detonating member is arranged to be selectively impelled against an impact-responsive detonator on a well bore perforator having one or more explosive devices. The movable detonating member is initially restrained from moving in relation of the tool body by a heat-responsive material which, in one embodiment, is operative to release the detonating member when an electrical heater on the tool is initiated from the surface for melting the bonding material or, in another embodiment, releases the detonating member when the material melted by elevated well bore temperatures.

  • Patent number: 5070788
Abstract: In the representative embodiments of the several methods and apparatus of the invention, a barrier formed of a low-temperature fusible metal alloy having a selected melting point is arranged between the donor and receptor explosives in an otherwise-typical detonator for reliably blocking the transmission of detonation forces from the donor explosive to the receptor explosive until the detonator has been subjected to well bore temperatures which are greater than the melting point of the fusible alloy.
