Abstract: An emergency locking seatbelt retractor. The retractor includes a pivoting lock plate which can pivot through a limited arc during activation of a webbing sensor or a vehicle sensor. When the lock plate is in its quiescent position, a pin thereon operates to hold a lock bar out of engagement with ratchet teeth on the webbing spool, thereby allowing free rotation of the spool. If either or both of the webbing sensor and vehicle sensor are activated, the lock plate is caused to pivot, drawing the pin away from the lock bar and allowing the lock bar to engage the ratchet teeth, thereby locking the retractor. Additionally, the locking initiation mechanism (the lock plate) and the sensors are isolated from webbing withdrawal forces and may therefore be constructed of lightweight, inexpensive materials. The retractor includes a vehicle sensor which is effective in substantially eliminating any vertical motion of the sensor ball.

Abstract: A child restraint bassinet assembly comprising a support base and a bassinet which hinges in the support base upon release of an inertia responsive trigger latch which has sufficient inertia to move to a release position upon impact, the assembly being retained in a vehicle by a base strap of a tether strap assembly, which is located sufficiently high that the center of gravity of the bassinet is below the base strap and tilting is thereby limited to downward movement of the rear end of the bassinet within its base.

Abstract: A bassinet assembly having a trigger latch which is actuated only by acceleration acting on the restraint above a threshold level to release a bassinet and allow it to swing from its normal recumbent position to a position wherein it engages and is arrested by its base at such an angle that a child is still safely restrained in the case of an accident.

Abstract: A container, for carrying an infant in a supine position, having an open top which is covered by a flexible cover of resilient perforate material, provided with seat belt retention means such that it can be retained to the rear seat of a vehicle having seat belts therein, and in the event of vehicle impact, an infant is supported over a large area of its body.

Abstract: A seat belt assembly provided with belt webbing, a bracket, a buckle, and a tongue co-operable with the buckle, and one of the bracket, buckle, or tongue is provided with a distortion area which is under stress when the assembly is strained to the first stage of overload.
