Abstract: A sliding hitch for receiving a trailer includes a rectangular base member having opposed end portions attachable to a bed of a truck. The sliding hitch further includes a plurality of stationary members aligned with each other. One of the plurality of stationary members has a groove formed therein extending substantially parallel to a longitudinal axis. A plurality of helical spring members are disposed adjacent the opposed end portions of the base member respectively. The sliding hitch further includes a hitch member having a lower portion and an upper portion having a substantially spherical shape integral with the lower portion and extending upwardly therefrom. The plurality of spring members allow the hitch member to slide forwardly and rearwardly to thereby reduce forces exerted on a truck and a trailer during operating conditions.
