Patent number: 5122283Abstract: A skimmer craft for removal of a layer of oil or other floating pollutants from the surface of a body of water including a pair of spaced-apart pontoons with a horizontal floor plate extending between the pontoons. A sump box is positioned at the rear of the skimmer plate or floor and defines a fixed water exit with the sump. The floor and sump are vertically adjustable as a unit. The sump box has a horizontally-extending weir through which oil may enter into the sump. The sump includes a comminutor unit which will reduce and break-up agglomerations in the oil. Propulsion units are positioned along the sides of the pontoons and at the bow and stern of the vessel at predetermined locations. The propulsion units may be selectively operated to establish a controlled flow pattern to direct water and the associated oil layer into the flotation pool where the oil layer is skimmed off and directed into the sump. The propulsion units are also operable to pilot the craft.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 1991Date of Patent: June 16, 1992Inventor: Robert C. Wells

Patent number: 4697913Abstract: A copying apparatus for synthesizing two images on one piece of copying paper. The apparatus includes a photosensitive body having a photosensitive surface, first and second light exposure assemblies disposed in spaced-apart relationship with respect to the path of rotation of the photosensitive surface and an image development assembly. In the first light exposure assembly, a first original positive image source controls light emitted from a first light source which light is transmitted to the photosensitive surface to create a first latent image of the information in the first original positive image source on a first portion of the photosensitive surface. No latent image is formed in the remainder or second portion of the photosensitive surface.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 1986Date of Patent: October 6, 1987Assignee: Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.Inventors: Yukimasa Kuramoto, Hajimu Oonishi, Yukio Sakai, Yoshiki Hayashi, Robert C. Wells

Patent number: 4660961Abstract: A copying apparatus of the electrostatic type enables at least two images to be synthesized on one surface of a copying paper using original positive image sources without preparing negative image sources prior to the copying process. The copying apparatus can also synthesize a plurality of images in different colors on a single sheet of copying paper.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1984Date of Patent: April 28, 1987Assignee: Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.Inventors: Yukimasa Kuramoto, Hajimu Oonishi, Yukio Sakai, Yoshiki Hayashi, Robert C. Patent number: 4445375Abstract: A tuned coriolis, angular rate measuring device includes a substantially hollow, generally annular rotor driven by a high-speed, synchronous spin motor. The rotor is made unsymmetrical by mounting within the rotor near its periphey at least a pair of high density masses, the respective masses being located diametrically opposite one another. The rotor is secured within a gimbal structure which is, in turn, mounted in tuned fashion upon a support housing through a cantilever spring at each end along the gimbal output axis, thereby providing bearingless, frictionless pivots permitting limited gimbal rotation. A pair of piezo-electric crystals is secured at opposite edges of one of the springs for sensing relative angular motion between the gimbal and the housing. The crystals are electrically paralleled so as to cancel any signals resulting from linear movement between the gimbal and housing.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 1981Date of Patent: May 1, 1984Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventor: Robert C.
