Patent number: 10105502Abstract: A dose counter for counting does of medicament dispensed by or remaining in a metered-dose inhaler. The dose counter includes a rotatably mounted gear wheel having a circular arrangement of ratchet teeth defining a root circle and a display coupled to the gear wheel, the display having a visible array of dose counting indicia indexable in response to rotary motion of the gear wheel. The dose counter further includes an actuator mechanism having a driver for rotatably driving the gear wheel in response to the dispensation of a medicament dose, the driver being arranged to engage the ratchet teeth of the gear wheel. The actuator mechanism includes an actuator shaft mounted for linear movement in response to the dispensing of a dose of medicament. In use, the travel of the driver along the root circle of the gear wheel exceeds the corresponding linear movement of the actuator shaft.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 2010Date of Patent: October 23, 2018Assignee: IVAX INTERNATIONAL B.V.Inventors: Simon G. Kaar, Jeffrey A. Karg, Timothy Norman Johnson, Robert Charles Uschold

Patent number: 10086156Abstract: A dose counter for a metered dose inhaler includes an incremental counting system for counting doses. The incremental counting system has a main body, an actuator arranged to be driven in response to canister motion and to drive an incremental output member in response to canister motion. The actuator and incremental output member are configured to have predetermined canister fire and count configurations in a canister fire sequence. The canister fire configuration is determined by a position of the actuator relative to a datum at which the canister fires medicament and the count configuration is determined by a position of the actuator relative to the datum at which the incremental count system makes an incremental count. The actuator is arranged to reach a position in the count configuration at or after a position in the canister fire configuration.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2015Date of Patent: October 2, 2018Assignees: Ivax Pharmaceuticals Ireland, Norton (Waterford) Limited, Teva Pharmaceuticals IrelandInventors: Declan Walsh, Derek Fenlon, Simon Kaar, Jan Geert Hazenberg, Daniel Buck, Paul Clancy, Robert Charles Uschold, Jeffrey A. Publication number: 20180056014Abstract: An inhaler includes a main body having a canister housing, a medicament canister retained in a central outlet port of the canister housing, and a dose counter having an actuation member for operation by movement of the medicament canister. The canister housing has an inner wall, and a first inner wall canister support formation extending inwardly from a main surface of the inner wall. The canister housing has a longitudinal axis X which passes through the center of the central outlet port. The first inner wall canister support formation, the actuation member, and the central outlet port lie in a common plane coincident with the longitudinal axis X such that the first inner wall canister support formation protects against unwanted actuation of the dose counter by reducing rocking of the medicament canister relative to the main body of the inhaler.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 6, 2017Publication date: March 1, 2018Inventors: Declan Walsh, Derek Fenlon, Simon Kaar, Jan Geert Hazenberg, Daniel Buck, Paul Clancy, Robert Charles Uschold, Jeffrey A.
