  • Publication number: 20240110361
Abstract: This disclosure addresses the problem of preventing sediment laden water (“sediment slurry”) resulting from hydraulic collection of nodules from the seabed from entering the riser and lift system that carries the nodules to the surface as a slurry. An example includes collecting nodules from the seabed by hydraulic suction, separating the nodules utilizing an inverse hydrocyclone.

  • Patent number: 6546715
Abstract: A thrust reverser for a turbofan engine having an air duct defined radially inwardly by a cowl around a gas turbine and radially outwardly in part by a fan case of the engine includes a bulkhead that is adapted to be mounted on the fan case. A translating sleeve is supported for movement axially between a closed position adjacent the bulkhead and an open position spaced apart axially to the rear of the bulkhead so as to form a outlet opening for discharge of air from the air duct. A cascade array fixed in the outlet opening has a substantially conical portion, the forward end of which is of a diameter substantially smaller than the diameter of the rearward end.

  • Publication number: 20010000718
Abstract: A floating offshore drilling/producing structure. The structure is formed from a plurality of closely spaced vertically oriented buoyant columns on which one or more modules or decks may be placed to support process equipment, a drilling rig, utilities, and accommodations for personnel. The columns are held in the spaced relationship by a plurality of horizontal plates spaced along the length of the columns and vertical plates located near the bottom of the columns and near the top of the columns. Drilling and/or producing is accomplished through risers located approximately in the center of the structure. The structure includes fixed ballast, an oil storage area, and voids and variable ballast for offsetting the lighter weight of the stored oil. The columns have a smaller water plane area than the horizontal plates.
