  • Patent number: 5810807
Abstract: A sphincterotome adapted to be used in the lumen of an endoscope for cutting a sphincter in a patient's body using a cutting wire energized by an electrosurgical unit. The sphincterotome has a distal end segment and cutting plane orienting mechanism extending through the length of a sphincterotome tubular body between a handle assembly at the proximal end of the sphincterotome body and a distal end segment thereof for shifting the cutting plane laterally with respect to the longitudinal axis of the sphincterotome tubular body exiting the endoscope lumen. The lateral shift is in at least one lateral direction from an un-shifted position of the cutting plane with respect to the longitudinal axis whereby in use during a sphincterotomy, the cutting wire may be oriented into alignment with a particular feature of the sphincter, e.g.

  • Patent number: 5209921
Abstract: Aerosol compositions for topical application, conferring a cooling effect on the body and suitable for use in the alleviation of pain, such as muscular or rheumatic pain, which compositions do not contain environmentally unacceptable chlorofluorocarbons but satisfy safety guidelines on flammability, and comprise an organic substance, other than a chlorofluorocarbon, having a boiling point within the range of from 10.degree. to 40.degree. C. and an organic substance, other than a chlorofluorocarbon, having a boiling point within the range of from -45.degree. to -10.degree. C., in a ratio of from 3 to 7 parts by weight of the higher boiling component (serving primarily as a coolant) per part by weight of the lower boiling component (serving primarily as a propellant).

  • Patent number: 4273021
Abstract: A mute for a wind instrument comprising a hollow shell adapted for fitting in the bell of the wind instrument and having an inlet and outlet for air passing through the instrument, the shell having an anechoic chamber located between and communicating with said inlet and outlet, a tube extending towards said inlet and defining an exit passage from the chamber, a baffle arranged within the shell between the chamber and the outlet, so as to permit passage of air only around its periphery, the tube being arranged to direct air exiting from the chamber towards the central region of the baffle and being arranged to function as an anegergic means so as to dampen sound waves travelling from the chamber to the baffle.
