  • Patent number: 6473205
Abstract: An image sensor sub-assembly for a scanner or other image acquisition device includes an image sensor array that detects light imaged by a scanner optical system and an image sensor module that enables calibration of the position of the image sensor array relative to the optical system. In this way, with the optical system being constructed within tolerances, the module enables alignment of the image sensor array to the optical system by its adjustment. Preferably, the sensor module is calibrated to defined standards, making the optical system's calibration independent of the specific module and the module's calibration independent of the specific optical system used in a given scanner. Preferably, the module enables positioning of the sensor array with six degrees of freedom. Further, the electronic circuit board, on which the sensor array is integrated, is separate from the board, on which the analog to digital converters are located.

  • Patent number: 5671005
Abstract: A method and apparatus for maintaining contact between the recording media and the media support surface of a scanning system. A pressure load is applied on the recording media in the immediate vicinity of a scanning laser beam, thereby ensuring surface to surface contact between the recording media and the media support surface while scanning.

  • Patent number: 5600477
Abstract: A beam scanner has a beam deflector mounted within a hollow shield having a beam entrance aperture and a beam exit aperture. The beam exit aperture is sealed by a window through which the deflected beam exits the hollow shield. A spin motor rotates the hollow shield, beam deflector and the window about a spin axis. A hydraulic system maintains the periphery of the window in an undistorted condition.

  • Patent number: 4285668
Abstract: The opposite ends of a conveyor tunnel furnace are free of physical seals and instead each end is provided with a gas seal tunnel. Each gas seal tunnel is formed by at least two spaced apart, transversely extending fluid flow restriction members defining at least one gas seal chamber therebetween. Gas is supplied in a fixed volumetric flow to each gas seal chamber and maintained at a pressure greater than that of the furnace or of the ambient atmosphere. The flow restriction members are adjustable to cause accelerated gas flow therethrough, or therearound, to prevent mixing or diffusion of gases.
