  • Patent number: 5829610
Abstract: A tamper-evident closure is provided with a base for attachment to a container, and the base defines a discharge aperture. A lid is movable between a closed position and an open position with respect to the discharge aperture. A manually releasable latch holds the lid closed on the base. A tamper-indicating element is mounted adjacent the latch. In one form of the invention, the element has a removable part defining a tool. According to another aspect of the invention, the removable part of the element is broken away when the latch is operated. In yet another form of the invention, the element prevents operation of the latch until the removable part of the element is first removed.

  • Patent number: 5577626
Abstract: A closure is provided for an opening to a container interior. The closure has a base for attachment to the container at the opening and defines a discharge aperture communicating with the opening. A lid is hingedly connected to the base for movement between a closed position occluding the aperture and an open position away from the aperture. A manually releasable latch is defined cooperatively by the base and lid to hold the lid closed. The lid has an outwardly projecting engaging member whereby the user can release the latch and apply a force to the member to lift the lid via the member.

  • Patent number: 5494174
Abstract: A removal resistant closure and container assembly is provided. The container defines an opening. The closure is applied to the container to occlude the opening. A first thread is defined by the container and extends at least partially around the opening from a leading end to a trailing end. A second thread is defined by the closure and extends at least partially around the closure form a leading end to a trailing end. A projection is defined adjacent one of the first and second threads. The projection and the one thread define a space between them which is less than the width of the other of the threads. Either the projection or the other thread, or both, are resilient to accommodate deformation during relative rotational movement of the container and closure. When the closure and container are screwed together, the threads are relatively axially displaced from a threadingly engaged condition to a disengaged condition which resists re-engagement.

  • Patent number: 5462183
Abstract: A tamper-evident closure is provided with a base having a deck with a discharge aperture. A lid is included for covering the discharge aperture on the base. The lid defines a latch aperture. The base has a resilient locking lever that projects from the base deck and through the lid latch aperture when the lid is closed. The lever engages the lid and holds the lid closed. A tamper-indicating element is provided on the lid to prevent operation of the lever. The element is attached to the lid with frangible portions which can be broken when sufficient force is applied to remove at least a part of the element and permit operation of the lever whereby another part of the element remains on the lid to provide evidence that part of the element has been removed.

  • Patent number: 5356017
Abstract: A child-resistant closure is provided with a base having a deck with a discharge aperture. A lid having a bottom surface for engaging the base is hingedly connected to the base. The base has a resilient locking lever that projects the base deck at a location inwardly of the periphery of the base. The lever defines a shoulder. The lid has a central cover panel defining an aperture inwardly of the periphery of the lid for receiving the lever when the lid is closed. The lid defines a latch surface adjacent the aperture for confronting the base lever shoulder when the lid is closed. The periphery of the lid defines a finger-engaging surface laterally offset relative to the lid aperture, and the finger-engaging surface extends progressively outwardly with increasing distance from the lid bottom surface. The portion of the base that extends from the hinge connection is configured to project peripherally outwardly at least as far as the lid bottom surface when the lid is closed.

  • Patent number: 5115950
Abstract: A dispersing closure is provided for an opening in an squeeze-type container and includes a body defining a dispensing passage for communicating between the container interior and the container exterior through a container opening. A flexible, self-sealing valve is provided with a peripheral flange, and the valve is mounted in the body for opening in response to increased container pressure. The body is of unitary construction and is molded from thermoplastic material with an upstanding peripheral wall that is subsequently deformed over the valve flange to retain the valve in the body. A preferred process for making the closure includes the steps of molding a unitary closure body with a seat for the valve flange surrounded by a peripheral wall, disposing the valve flange on the seat, and then deforming an upper portion of the wall into a generally annular configuration extending radially inwardly to overlie the seat and clamp the valve flange between the seat and the deformed portion of the wall.

  • Patent number: 5065911
Abstract: A closure is provided for use on a container. The closure includes a body for being mounted to the container over the container opening and defines a dispensing orifice. A separate lid is mounted on the body for pivoting between a closed position and an open position. A resiliently deformable biasing member extends from the lid and has a distal end for engaging the body. Restraining walls are provided on the body for restraining the distal end of the biasing member whereby the biasing member is most stressed when the lid is at an over center position between the open and closed positions to thereby bias the lid toward one of the open and closed positions.

  • Patent number: 5005737
Abstract: A fluid dispensing closure is provided for use on a squeeze-type container. The closure includes a resilient dome member projecting convexly outwardly over the opening. The dome member defines at least one slit extending through the dome member. The dome member is sufficiently resilient to have a normally closed configuration in which the slit is sealed closed when the pressure inside the dome member equals the pressure outside the dome member. The dome member is sufficiently flexible to be deformed further outwardly from and relative to the normally closed configuration for opening the slit when the container is squeezed to exert a predetermined fluid pressure against the inside of the dome member whereby the fluid product can discharge from the container through the open slit.

The body includes a peripheral side wall outwardly of the first aperture. The closure includes a cover on the body for defining at least a first lid to cover the first aperture. The closure includes a first hinge for accommodating pivoting of the first lid between a closed position occluding first aperture and an open position spaced away from the first aperture and for connecting the first lid directly to another part of the cover or the body. The first lid includes a first engaging arm for engaging the body side wall when the first lid is in the open position.

  • Patent number: 4709823
Abstract: An anti-tamper container closure assembly includes a container having a orifice defining neck which receives a closure cap. The container has a plurality of projecting anti-rotation teeth positioned below the bottom of the closure cap and an overcap is adapted to be snapped over the closure cap, the overcap having a skirt with inner diameter projecting anti-rotation ribs which index with the container teeth to prevent rotation of the overcap. The overcap is effective to prevent opening of the orifice and is provided with frangeable connecting portions allowing a part of the overcap to be removed from the assembly to provide access to the closure cap for an opening actuation of the closure cap. The overcap skirt is provided with an inner diameter ledge which abuts a closure cap outer diameter ledge to prevent removal of the overcap skirt.

  • Patent number: 4638916
Abstract: A closure with a snap type hinge cap comprising a first part adapted to interengage with the open neck of a container, a second part forming a cap and an integral hinge interconnecting the first and second parts. Each of the first and second parts comprises a base wall and a peripheral skirt. A pair of hinge straps extends from the skirts and are positioned on opposite sides of the integral hinge. The radial length of the pair of hinge straps is less than the length of the arc through which the second cap part moves to and from and closed position relative to the first part such that the pair of straps stretch to function as springs. The ends of the pair of straps are attached to the skirts radially inwardly of the periphery of the skirts.

  • Patent number: 4480413
Abstract: A centrifugal blasting wheel includes a pair of front and back wheel plates interconnected in spaced parallel relationship. Each wheel plate has a central opening defined by an annular surface of constant diameter. These plates are provided with respective cross-wise aligned grooves in their inner faces extending radially in equally circumferentially spaced relationship from the inner annular surfaces of the plates to the outer annular surfaces thereof and opening into each of the annular surfaces. A blade is removably mounted between each pair of aligned grooves. Each blade has a body generally in the form of a parallelepiped with an inner and an outer end and side flanges to define a blade of I-shape in transverse cross-section. Each blade has at least one retaining lug extending laterally from one of the side flanges and being substantially closer to the inner end of the blade body than the outer end thereof.
