  • Patent number: 10850701
Abstract: A source of illumination is positioned on a vehicle facing rearwardly. Multi-function controls include a first control and a second control. The first control illuminates the source of illumination and provides a first signal when a driver depresses a brake pedal. The second control illuminates the source of illumination and provides a second signal when an occupant of the vehicle is not using a seat belt. The second signal is an indicator signal adapted to be read by an automatic license plate reader. The indicator signal is chosen from the class consisting of an alpha-numeric signal and a sequencing pattern signal. The alpha-numeric signal is created by light shining through a translucent panel with opaque alpha-numeric markings. The sequencing signal is created by a light turning on and off.

  • Publication number: 20180303406
Abstract: Systems for characterizing skin type including an illumination source configured to generate and direct light of one or more wavelengths onto a skin area; an optical sensor configured to receive the light reflected from the skin area illuminated by the illumination source and generate a corresponding electronic signal; a memory containing computer-readable instructions for: processing the electronic signal to identify one or more properties of the reflected light received by the optical sensor for use in characterizing one or more skin types within the skin area, and automatically characterizing the one or more skin types within the skin area based at least in part on the one or more identified properties of the reflected light; and a processor configured to read the computer-readable instructions from the memory and automatically characterize the one or more skin types within the skin area. Corresponding methods are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5714930
Abstract: An safety restraint non-compliance light to indicate when automotive passengers are not utilizing their seat belts, comprising, in combination, an automobile with a front left seat and a front right seat and a rear left seat and a rear right seat. A pressure indicator switch is located beneath each seat. Each seat generates a pressure responsive signal to indicate the presence of a passenger sitting thereon. A seat belt is provided with a female receptacle secured to one side of the passenger and a strap with a male projection positionable in the female receptacle on the other side of the seats and passengers. A switch is located interior of the female receptacle to indicate the coupling of the male projection to the female receptacle and thus the coupling and use of the seat belt.

  • Patent number: 4779278
Abstract: Disclosed is a laser apparatus and a related method for use with a laser medium of a type which emits a beam of coherent laser energy having both low and high order modes. End reflectors are provided for reflecting at least a portion of the energy in the beam back through the laser medium, and positive and negative lens elements are positioned on opposing sides of the lasing medium so that discrimination against the higher order modes is achieved by non-linearly amplifying the reflected beam portion passing through the lasing medium.
