  • Patent number: 7959387
Abstract: A tool holder includes a shank including a tool holder portion and a central bore for accommodating a cutting tool, and a first shrink fit sleeve disposed about the tool holder portion of the shank. An application of heat to the tool holder causes the tool holder portion and the first shrink fit sleeve to expand outwardly, and the removal of heat will cause the tool holder portion and the first shrink fit sleeve to contract inwardly to rigidly maintain the cutting tool within the tool holder by shrink fit. The tool holder may also include a second shrink fit sleeve disposed about the first shrink fit sleeve to provide increased torque capability.

  • Patent number: 7669308
Abstract: An collet and lock nut assembly includes a collet for receiving a cutting tool shank and a lock nut for creating a gripping force between the collet and the shank. The collet has a nose portion and a body portion separated by an annular groove. The lock nut has a plurality of retention tabs and a corresponding number of clear portions. The collet and lock nut assembly can be easily assembled by inserting at least one retention tab within the groove of the collet, and then applying pressure to the collet such that the remaining retention tabs of the lock nut are received within the groove of the collet to place the assembly in a locked position. The collet and cutting tool shank can be drawn from the tool holder by applying rotational torque to the lock nut. The collet is easily removed from the lock nut by applying pressure in any circumferential, lateral direction against the collet.

  • Patent number: 7306238
Abstract: An assembly generally comprises a collet for receiving a cutting tool shank and a lock nut for creating a gripping force between the collet and the cutting tool shank. The collet has a nose and the lock nut has a front face that is substantially flush with the nose. The lock nut further has a fastening element that mates with a fastening element of a coolant sealing ring for attaching the coolant sealing ring to the lock nut so that the coolant sealing ring may be detached from the lock nut.

  • Patent number: 5829924
Abstract: A cutting tool assembly (1) clamping mechanism (5) which secures a cutting insert (3) for performing cutoff, grooving, slotting, and profiling operations. The clamping mechanism (5) has resilient upper and lower clamping jaws (7, 9) for receiving and securing the insert (3). The cutting insert (3) has front and top faces (13, 15) that define a cutting edge (21) at an intersection thereof, a back face (25), and adjacent proximal and distal bottom faces (27, 29) contiguous with said front and back faces (13, 25) that define an angular lower seating portion (30). The lower clamping jaw (9) of the clamping mechanism (5) includes proximal and distal pocket surfaces (59, 67) forming an angularly recessed jaw portion that is complementary in shape to the angular seating portion (30) of the insert (3).

  • Patent number: 5040932
Abstract: A tool holder assembly includes a first member formed with a cylindrical bore and a second member including a cylindrical portion receivable in the bore of the first member. A locator screw hole extends radially through the first member. The second member is formed with a conical face having a centerline perpendicular to its longitudinal centerline. A locator screw is threaded into the locator screw hole in the first member. The locator screw includes a conical nose adapted to engage the conical face of the second member when the locator screw is turned in a first direction. The locator screw cooperates with the conical face of the second member to radially locate the second member with respect to the first member.
