Patent number: 6711265Abstract: In a stereophonic system having sum and difference signals with expanded spatial imaging, localization of center audio materials more towards the center is accomplished by equalization of the (L+R) sum signal. The equalization comprises decreasing the bass response while increasing the treble response of the sum signal with the desired bass reduction being accomplished by the use of a gyrator to economically synthesize an inductance. Additionally, the equalizations in the (L+R) sum signal to reduce the signal at bass frequencies and to increase the signal at treble frequencies are switchable singly or in combination between “ON” and “OFF” modes.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 2001Date of Patent: March 23, 2004Assignee: Thomson Licensing, S.A.Inventor: Robert Edward Morris, Jr.

Publication number: 20030197811Abstract: There is provided an acoustic sound reproducing apparatus for a first audio signal and having an input terminal for receiving a second audio signal, a selector switch and at least one loudspeaker. The at least one loudspeaker is driven by an output signal from one of the first or second audio signal through the selector switch. As a result, the acoustic sound reproducing apparatus, and the apparatus providing the second audio signal, can commonly use a single loudspeaker or set of loudspeakers. When the external audio signal is selected, the internal loudspeaker(s) becomes part of the external loudspeaker arrangement for a surround sound system. When more than one loudspeaker is used, the loudspeakers are connected to each other in series when they are connected to be driven by the external second audio input signal instead of each being driven by their respective amplifiers.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 19, 2002Publication date: October 23, 2003Inventors: Alan Anderson Hoover, Robert Edward Morris, Mark Alan Simpson

Patent number: 6326844Abstract: A “floating” or “unipolar” DC supply is coupled to a filter comprising a pair of capacitors coupled in series across the supply output. Output voltages developed across the capacitors are applied to the supply inputs of an amplifier having an output coupled via a load to a common connection of the two capacitors. A bias supply, coupled in parallel with the filter, produces an output voltage representative of the relative values of the capacitor voltages which is fed back to an input of the amplifier via a threshold device. Under transient input signal conditions, which would tend to unbalance the filter capacitor voltages, the bias supply renders the threshold device conductive for diverting the transient from the amplifier input thus reducing the supply voltage imbalance and improving the transient recovery time of the amplifier.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2001Date of Patent: December 4, 2001Assignee: Thomson Licensing SAInventors: Robert Edward Morris, Jr., Alan Anderson Hoover

Patent number: 6047420Abstract: A head and upper body support system comprising three distinct supports: a head support and two upper body supports. The head support has a concave face contacting surface to receive the forehead of an individual therein. Each upper body support has an inclined lower portion to support and gradually lift the abdomen of the individual and an upper portion to support the corresponding shoulder, axilla (underarm), and side of the upper body. The upper portion of each upper body support has an arcuate groove formed in the side thereof to contour the axilla, which prevents the support from pressing against the breasts or chest of the individual or impeding the expansion thereof during breathing.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1997Date of Patent: April 11, 2000Assignee: Proper Position, Inc.Inventors: Louis Orr Priester, III, Robert Edward Morris
