  • Patent number: 8480444
Abstract: A boat includes a hull, an inboard rotary engine, and a jet propulsion unit connected to the engine via a direct drive connection. The hull may be a stepped hull with one or more aft steps. A large, low, substantially flat aft fishing/swim deck is disposed above the engine and an exhaust system of the engine. The exhaust system may vent into the step of the stepped hull and include a check valve that discourages water from backflowing into the engine.

  • Patent number: 7997225
Abstract: A molded boat hull is provided having a channel forming member extending between a motor mounting transom and an aft riser that forms a step in the bottom portion of the boat hull. The channel forming member has at least one open side and at least an opening in another side to provide a fluid flow communication channel from the atmosphere to the underside of the boat in the step area. The channel forming member is formed as an integral part of the boat hull during forming of the boat hull by molding.

  • Patent number: 7469165
Abstract: A machined part is provided. The machined part is formed from a porous substrate material that is machined to shape. After machining to shape, a resin is infused into the machined part precursor to a layer thickness depending on the end use of the finished part. The resin is then allowed to harden to complete the part. The finished part may be used as a prototype tool, a tool for forming other tools such as mold parts and finished tooling.

  • Patent number: 7409920
Abstract: A boat hull is provided that has a substantially seamless construction wherein the boat hull is an integral monolithic structure. In the formation of the boat, the boat interior components for example deck precursors are positioned in the mold prior to formation of the hull so that the boat hull can be made in a one shot molding process.

  • Patent number: 7393494
Abstract: A flexible molding component used with a base mold improves on existing methods of forming fiber reinforced composite parts. The molding component is formed of a flexible body structure having an interfacing surface and a perimeter region including a perimeter seal configured for sealing engagement with the base mold. Resin and vacuum distribution channels are formed in the interfacing surface to deliver resin to a fiber lay up disposed on the base mold and draw the resin across and through the lay up, respectively, to properly mix the resin/fiber combination which forms the desired part. Application of the vacuum causes the perimeter seal of the flexible body structure to sealingly engage with the base mold to enclose materials between the body structure and the mold, as well as causing the interfacing surface to draw against the resin/fiber combination, and the mold to shape the combination into the desired part.

  • Patent number: 7107920
Abstract: An insert for use in the fabrication of a watercraft hull to form an inboard/outboard propulsion system passageway. The design of the insert incorporates a semi-rigid body having an inboard surface, an outboard surface, and sidewalls interconnecting the surfaces. The semi-rigid nature of the body facilitates the insert fitting tightly with the build up of laminate layers forming a watercraft hull while maintain dimensional stability during the manufacture of the hull. The insert is further configured to be easily removed from the completed watercraft hull to reveal the finished inboard/outboard propulsion system passageway.

  • Patent number: 5700170
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed to alter the diameter of the nozzle of a jet boat, thereby allowing a user to maximize acceleration, top speed, fuel economy or other factors. The disclosed apparatus allows a user to adjust the nozzle diameter opening, while the boat is moving, by an elastic annular hydraulic bladder that reduces the cross sectional area of a cone formed by a plurality of cone plates. The apparatus is compatible with steering and trim adjustment devices, and is located rearward of them. The apparatus is also compatible with existing jet boat, and provides a bowl adapter that may be attached to the impeller bowl of an existing jet. A steering collar attaches to the bowl adapter by two vertical pins to allow rotation to the left and right. Two horizontal pins on the steering collar support a nozzle front lock plate in a manner that allows vertical trim adjustment. The nozzle cone plates are mounted in a hinged manner to the nozzle front lock plate and the nozzle housing support.
