  • Patent number: 5558082
Abstract: A method of intubating a patient and an introducer for use with such method. The placement of the introducer is checked by measuring the carbon dioxide level of the gaseous medium flowing out of it, thereby giving an indication as to whether or not the introducer has been properly placed in the trachea of the patient. The introducer incorporates a flexible tube with a removable reinforcing element inside, which allows the introducer to be sufficiently stiff when being introduced into the patient and after removal of the reinforcing element, sufficiently flexible to be placed between the face of the patient and a face mask used to ventilate the patient.
