  • Publication number: 20050016112
Abstract: A structural brace apparatus and method provides support between a primary building component and a secondary building component, the primary building component having X and Y axis deflections relative to the secondary building component. The brace includes a first support arm having a longitudinal axis, the first arm extending from and adapted to be secured to the primary building component, the first arm longitudinal axis being positioned at an intermediate angle between the primary building component X and Y axis deflections. The brace also includes a second support arm extending from and adapted to be secured to the secondary building component, the second arm has a slidable engagement with the first arm for reciprocative movement substantially parallel to the first arm longitudinal axis, wherein the brace is operative to reduce transmission of the X and Y axis deflections from the primary building component to the secondary building component.

  • Patent number: 6418151
Abstract: Automatic switching between clock sources in synchronous networks is accomplished using Synchronous Status Message transmitted over the network and a control circuit positioned between SASE (Stand Alone Synchronization Equipment) and a network element (SDH-NE, Synchronous Digital Hierarchy Network Element).

  • Patent number: 5878556
Abstract: The instant invention relates to a lawn trimmer and an associated shield. The shield, in the preferred embodiment, is entirely formed from an impact resistant plastic. Additionally, the shield is defined by both an inner peripheral region and an outer peripheral region. An annular raised ring serves to define the boundary between these inner and outer regions. This shield is adapted to be removably secured to the drive shaft of a lawn trimmer. The interconnection between the drive shaft and shield is such that the shield can be rotated independent of the drive shaft. Such independent rotation of the shield allows the trimmer to be easily guided along either horizontal or vertical surfaces. Lastly, a spool of cutting filament is adapted to be removably secured to the drive shaft. The construction of the present invention allows for the removal and replacement of both the filament spool and the shield.

  • Patent number: 4041530
Abstract: A carrier is provided with a spiral structure in which sound and/or image information is stored in the form of frequency modulated or phase modulated signals. The carrier structure is composed of coplanar regions of variable length separated by coplanar areas of variable length. Where the regions and areas are all in the same plane the regions and areas have different coefficients of reflection or transmission. Where the regions and areas are not coplanar they are spaced by a distance sufficient to produce in response to impinging radiation a one-half wave length difference in the radiation exiting the regions and areas.Apparatus for imaging the radiation exiting the carrier structure is also disclosed. This is a continuation of application Ser. No. 396,399, filed Sept. 12, 1973, now abandoned, which is a continuation of Ser. No. 229,285, filed Feb. 25, 1972, now abandoned.

  • Patent number: 3968051
Abstract: A fast-acting photochromic filter--i.e. a filter whose optical density in the visible light range of 4000 to 7500 angstroms is increased when subject to radiation shorter than 6000 angstroms--which is room temperature stable, that is from at least about 20.degree. to 80.degree.C., consists of (1) a solid optically transparent polymeric matrix, (2) essentially free from non-combined or molecular oxygen, and preferably protected from diffusion of atmospheric oxygen, in which is (3) dispersed, in solid solution, at least one light absorbing compound having a polynuclear conjugated condensed aromatic ring structure, whose molecules are capable of assuming a metastable triplet state by a process of intersystem crossing (not necessarily of the moiety which assumes the metastable triplet state) and in the triplet state, because of closer triplet states, has energy absorption bands whicch occur at lower energies (larger wavelengths) than the singlet-singlet absorption for such molecules.
