Patent number: 8353879Abstract: A medical fluid injector, replaceable syringe, and coupling mechanism to engage the syringe plunger to the plunger drive ram of the injector are provided wherein coupling involves a cam cleat-like mechanism, thereby allowing for cooperative movement between the plunger drive ram and syringe plunger. The coupling mechanism of the plunger drive ram is provided with first and second movable members, each having toothed, arcuate surfaces, while the coupling mechanism of the syringe plunger is provided with a knurled cavity. Disengagement of the coupling mechanism is facilitated by translational movement of a face plate located on the forward end of the injector housing.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 2007Date of Patent: January 15, 2013Assignee: Mallinckrodt LLCInventors: James H. Goethel, Robert G. Bergen

Patent number: 8141598Abstract: The filling of a syringe can be performed at a faster rate using a filling sequence which expels air from the fill tube before filling the syringe. A similar method is used when changing contrast containers during a filling sequence to ensure that all the air is expelled from the fill tube before filling resumes with the new contrast container. Additionally, by including a contrast container holder that is affixed to an injector head and holds the container near the syringe tip, the filling sequence can be accomplished without requiring the operator to hold the contrast container during the sequence.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 2009Date of Patent: March 27, 2012Assignee: Mallinckrodt LLCInventors: Frank M. Fago, Robert G. Bergen, James F. Farmer

The coupling mechanism of the plunger drive ram is provided with first and second movable members, each having toothed, arcuate surfaces, while the coupling mechanism of the syringe plunger is provided with a knurled extension. Disengagement of the coupling mechanism is facilitated by translational movement of a face plate located on the forward end of the injector housing.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 2001Date of Patent: November 27, 2007Assignee: Liebel-Flarsheim CompanyInventors: James H. Patent number: 5855568Abstract: A syringe discharge end having a rotatable tubular connector member for engaging a luer connector on medical tubing. The syringe discharge end and the connector have mating threads which are used to affix the connector to the syringe discharge end. Once affixed, the connector is may freely rotate relative to the syringe, while being prevented from axial movement. On its distal end, the connector includes internal threads for engaging external threads on a standard luer connector of medical tubing. To engage the connector to tubing, the connector is rotated relative to the tubing and the syringe to draw the tubing onto the syringe discharge end.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 1996Date of Patent: January 5, 1999Assignee: Liebel-Flarsheim CompanyInventors: Dane J.
