  • Patent number: 4463498
Abstract: A coupling for the handle shaft of a flailing line type trimmer which permits angular adjustment of a drive head. The coupling clamps two parts of the handle shaft together. The coupling prevents rotation of one part and permits the selectible rotation of the other. It is preferably formed as a split clamp joining and securely holding the parts in abutment. A pin on the split clamp engages a recess in the end of one handle shaft part to prevent its rotation while a lip on the split clamp engages a circumferential groove in the other handle shaft part to enable it to rotate. A releasable fastener permits loosening of the clamp to allow rotational adjustment of the parts, and their retention at a selected orientation.

  • Patent number: 4369742
Abstract: A connecting rod for an internal combustion engine. The crankshaft comprises two substantially identical parts each of which has a face to be brought into abutment with a corresponding face of the other part, and a pair of tubular journal sleeves. These tubular journal sleeves are brought toward each other over a pair of bearing inserts which thereafter hold the parts assembled to one another and are themselves held in alignment.

  • Patent number: 4356605
Abstract: A crankshaft with a laminated counterweight. The counterweight comprises a plurality of substantially flat plates, each of which has a first and a second shaft mounting hole therethrough, and at least one depression on one side and a boss on the other side. The plates are identical and are pressed together so that the bosses enter the depressions. Shafts are pressed into the aligned first and second holes, and an integral fully aligned torque resistant counterweight and crankshaft results.

  • Patent number: 4223441
Abstract: A flail for a rotary vegetation cutter. The flail is attached to a rotor and is centrifugally swung around the axis of rotation of the rotor to strike vegetation such as grass and weeds to cut them down. The flail comprises a plurality of metal filaments braided into an elongated strand and an abradable jacket surrounding and embracing the strand. When rotated the flail strikes and cuts objects in its path, the jacekt near its free end abrading away to expose the filaments adjacent to the free end. The strand unravels where the jacket has been removed to form a group of loose metallic filament ends.

  • Patent number: 4003422
Abstract: A cast composite cylinder head assembly for an internal combustion engine having a cylinder liner cast integrally with a cylinder head, and a process for making the same wherein, as the consequence of a casting process, open continuous passages can be formed inside the cylinder head itself, in a bore in the liner, and in ports through the liner.
