  • Patent number: 6083126
Abstract: A ball bat for striking game balls with an elongate body with a first end comprising a knob, a handle fixed to the knob, a barrel fixed to the handle, and a second end comprising a tip fixed to the barrel. A threaded bore hole is disposed in the barrel of the elongate body, and a threaded rod is matingly received therein. An adhesive may be interposed over the entire surface area between the rod and the bore hole to prevent the rod from dislodging and to secure the barrel of the ball bat against splintering. The rod may be formed from a material, such as hickory wood or a wood knot, that is of a greater hardness than the material of the barrel of the elongate body. The rod may have a grain oriented transverse, and ideally perpendicular, to a longitudinal axis of the elongate body along which a grain of the elongate body may be oriented.

  • Patent number: 6052800
Abstract: A system for monitoring a computer system with an external status monitor during the power-on self test (POST) of the computer system. The computer system has tasks to be performed during the POST process. Each task has a token corresponding to an original message or a subsequently added message. Each subsequently added message is stored in the computer system, and each original message is stored in the external status monitor. Under the control of the computer system, the system identifies a task for the computer system to perform. The system then retrieves the token for the identified task and determines whether the retrieved token corresponds to an original message or a subsequently added message. If the retrieved token corresponds to an original message, the system sends only the retrieved token to the external status monitor.

  • Patent number: 5993602
Abstract: Permanent wet strength agents are applied to the surface of the Yankee dryer along with the creping adhesive formulation and thereafter transferred to the tissue web as the tissue web is being adhered to the Yankee. When a sufficient amount of permanent wet strength agent is applied, improved temporary wet strength is attained.

  • Patent number: 5980404
Abstract: A hockey blade for a hockey stick for striking a game projectile during hockey play. The preferred hockey blade has horizontal arcuate channels disposed on each of a first striking face and a second striking face of a projectile striking member whereby the striking faces of the hockey blade demonstrate improved control over a spherical game projectile. A plurality of vertical score lines may be disposed on one or both striking faces of the hockey blade. First and second light sources, each emitting a different light signal, may be operably associated with the first and second sides respectively of the hockey blade whereby the first and second sides can be readily distinguished. A plurality of ridges comprising rotatably coupled spherical balls may be disposed on a bottom face of the projectile striking member. The spherical balls may be removably coupled to the projectile striking member by a removable sleeve.

  • Patent number: 5924942
Abstract: A game ball has a hollow spherical shell with at least a portion thereof that is translucent. A plurality of dimples are disposed on the outer surface of the hollow shell. At least some of the dimples comprise double concave negative lenses with a convex portion generally concentric with an outer concave surface of the double concave negative lenses. An impact triggering mechanism, a power source, and a light source are contained within a bulb that is contained within an open inner volume of the hollow shell. Upon impact of the game ball with an outside body, the impact triggering mechanism sends power from the power source to energize the light source. Light is emitted and refracted through the lenses whereby the game ball tends to glow and attention is attracted to the game ball. A volume of liquid is contained within the open inner volume of the hollow shell for dampening energy and protecting the bulb.

  • Patent number: 5722906
Abstract: A ball for use in street hockey comprised of a hollow sphere and a freely moving liquid contained within a volume of the sphere. The sphere having a smooth, unobstructed and spherical inner surface and being constructed of a bounce resistant material. The liquid, most preferably non-toxic liquid antifreeze, occupying less than one-half of the volume of the sphere and serving to dampen energy and to lower the center of gravity of the ball below its geometric center.

  • Patent number: 5553331
Abstract: This diverse face mask has a frontal and two optional side self sealing lenses in a pliable mask body. Two pocket hinges are located on the sides of the mask. The Teat portion of the mask contacts the head behind the concave surface of the temple. The mask body contacting the head is concave, to act as a suction cup. A floating strap attached at the rear of the pocket hinge is provided to pull the posterior of the hinge and a posterior flap toward the body in order to provide a universal fit and water tight seal.

  • Patent number: 5455986
Abstract: A metal insert, usually threaded, for use in a prepared hole in a plastic part and a method for its installation. The upper parts of the hole and the insert and fit together by melting the plastic. After cooling, expandable ridges in the lower part of the insert are forced into the cooled plastic to make the entire assembly leakproof. An intermediate thinned section of the insert permits the expansion of the ridges and itself permanently deforms to maintain the leakproof connection.

  • Patent number: 5411357
Abstract: A device for locking a threaded insert into a prepared hole in a parent material. The device includes a locating portion, a locking portion and a gripping portion which is removed upon installation. The locating portion comprises a finger which is positioned in a preformed slot in the external threads of the threaded insert. The locking portion, which extends outwardly from the locating portion, is driven across the corresponding threads of the parent material to shear and distort the threads and lock the insert in place. The gripping portion which extends outwardly from the locking portion is used by the installer to position the device during installation and is then broken off.
