Patent number: 10322475Abstract: An adjustable roll and support mechanism for elongate objects having a round cross-sectional configuration has a support base having a pair of parallel upright tubular members having rigid or collapsible support legs. Elevation posts are positioned in movable telescoping relation within respective tubular members and support a roll positioning head having an internal roll positioning mechanism. A pair of roll assemblies are movably supported on the roll positioning head. Lock rings are positionable at a locking position to restrain downward movement of the elevation posts relative to the tubular members and are positionable at a release position permitting downward movement of the elevation posts. Lock ring stops are mounted to a transverse structural member and are positioned to prevent the lock rings from becoming bound after being struck by a lock release mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 2016Date of Patent: June 18, 2019Assignee: SUMNER MANUFACTURING COMPANY, LLCInventor: Robert H. Collins, Jr.

Publication number: 20040086698Abstract: A method and apparatus for sealing a tail of a log of web material is provided. A linear tail seal system includes a track and electromagnets that cooperate to move a linear motor. The tail of the log is detected by an electronic eye as the log moves near the linear tail seal system, which signals an adhesive applicator to apply an adhesive to the log. An ironing roll forms a tail seal by adhesively ironing the tail seal on the log. A process for making a roll having a well defined handle formed by the linear tail seal system is also provided.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2002Publication date: May 6, 2004Inventors: Robert H. Patent number: 6076724Abstract: An elongate flexible clamp mechanism defines first and second ends and is capable of assume a substantially flat configuration and is capable of being positioned in encircling relation about a cylindrical object such as a pipe. A pair of elongate flexible members such as wire cables, chains or pivotally interconnected rigid members support a plurality of substantially rigid clamping members in spaced relation along the lengths of said elongate flexible members. The clamping members are each provided with jack screws for force applying engagement with the pipe to enable alignment of adjacent pipe sections and to correct minor irregularities in pipe roundness so that adjacent pipe sections can be efficiently welded. The elongate flexible clamp mechanism is provided with first and second latch connector elements which are interconnected when the clamp mechanism is located in encircling relation about the pipe.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 1999Date of Patent: June 20, 2000Assignee: Sumner Manufacturing Co., Inc.Inventors: Robert H. Collins, Jr., James E. Helmick

Patent number: 5934626Abstract: An adjustable roll and support mechanism for elongate objects having a round cross-sectional configuration has a support base having a pair of parallel upright tubular members having rigid or collapsible support legs. Elevation posts are positioned in movable telescoping relation within respective tubular members and support a roll positioning head having an internal roll positioning mechanism. A pair of roll assemblies are movably supported on the roll positioning head and have driven relation by the roll positioning mechanism and are moved toward one another or away from one another for selective positioning of the roll assemblies for rotatable support of round objects of differing dimension. The roll assemblies are connected to the roll positioning mechanism by quick disconnect mechanisms to permit the roll assemblies to be changed out to accommodate rotatable support of different types of objects.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1997Date of Patent: August 10, 1999Assignee: Sumner Manufacturing Company, Inc.Inventor: Robert H. Collins, Jr.

Patent number: 5413677Abstract: Chemical pulp is produced from hardwood chips in a simplified manner utilizing a continuous digester. An inverted top separator is provided in the circulatory loop between the high pressure feeder and the top of the continuous digester for thermally isolating circulations on either side of the inverted top separator. Relatively cool liquor circulates between the inverted top separator and high pressure feeder, at a temperature such that it will not flash into steam in a high pressure feeder, while in the circulatory loop from the high pressure feeder to the digester the chips are in cooking liquor at cooking temperature. Since hardwood chips require less cooking than softwood chips, a single heating source for heating the liquor to cooking temperature is provided, external of the digester, and a conventional cooking circulation loop within the digester is not required.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1993Date of Patent: May 9, 1995Assignee: Kamyr, Inc.Inventor: Robert H. Collins

Patent number: 5297779Abstract: A high/low screw jack stand mechanism is presented having inner and outer telescoping tubes for coarse elevational adjustment and having an adjustment screw and nut assembly for fine elevational adjustment. For coarse adjustment a thrust washer, surrounding the inner work elevation tube, permits free upward movement of the elevating tube relative to the outer support tube and is automatically positioned in angular binding relation with the elevating tube by a thrust washer positioner which has supporting engagement with one side of the thrust washer to restrain downward movement of the elevating tube. A thrust washer restraint member extends upwardly from and in spaced relation with the thrust washer positioner to restrain the thrust washer from moving upwardly along with the elevation tube.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 1993Date of Patent: March 29, 1994Assignee: Sumner Manufacturing, Co., Inc.Inventors: Robert H. Collins, Jr., Wilbert Jollivette

Patent number: 4157247Abstract: This process removes water and at least some of an impurity from a fluid stream which contains a product fluid. The impurity includes a halogenated hydrocarbon. The process includes removing substantially all of the water from the fluid stream to provide a substantially dehydrated fluid stream and introducing the dehydrated fluid stream to an adsorption zone to adsorb the halogenated hydrocarbon from the dehydrated fluid stream to provide the product fluid. The adsorption zone is regenerated by passing a hot regeneration gas through it to remove the halogenated hydrocarbon. The heat from the hot regeneration gas cracks the halogenated hydrocarbon to provide a gaseous impurity component containing hydrogen and at least one halogen. The gaseous impurity component is removed from the regeneration gas at a location outside the adsorption zone.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 1977Date of Patent: June 5, 1979Assignee: Reserve Synthetic Fuels, Inc.Inventors: Robert H. Collins, III, Donald L. Love

Patent number: 4053929Abstract: The tracker tracks on a center of contrast on a selected target while trang gates are adjusted automatically to fit the target contrast area's shape and size. The appropriate bright or dark contrast detector is adjusted to allow discrimination of the target contrast from its background, thus allowing a tracking window to encompass the selected contrast area. Orthogonal error signals are provided for servoing a vidicon camera to maintain the viewed field centered on the target.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 1969Date of Patent: October 11, 1977Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the ArmyInventors: Robert H. Collins, III, William J. Steele, Albert L. Thomas, Jr.
