Abstract: Deteriorated or aged magnetic recording media exhibiting undesirable properties such as shed, stickiness or squeal are restored to playable condition having no such objectionable properties by heating the media to an elevated temperature and for lengths of time sufficient to restore the media. A typical temperature used is 54.degree. C. and a typical effective time is 16 hours. Ambient humidity is suitable. The restored media can be used to transfer data or information to new media. Restored media can also be again heat treated for restoration purposes, if it deteriorates again.

Abstract: There is provided a transit vehicle control apparatus and method, including a plurality of vehicle carried signal receivers operative with a transposed signal transmitting cable positioned along the vehicle track for providing an initial and higher speed position determination and then a lower speed and more accurate position determination in relation to stopping the vehicle at a desired location.

Abstract: An improved train vehicle speed control system is provided for operation in conjunction with train speed control signals and train occupancy indication signals in relation to a train vehicle track system including a plurality of predetermined track circuit signal blocks through which train vehicles pass. It is desired that a control of train vehicle speed be provided in relation to the detected occupancy by a train vehicle of a particular signal block, for maintaining train vehicle occupancy protection requirements and providing desired sequential occupancy control of the train vehicles through each of successive signal blocks through operation of provided protection signals with selected signal blocks behind the detected train vehicle. Spurious pseudo vehicle occupancy in a given signal block is detected and included in the provided train speed control in relation to that given signal block.
