  • Patent number: 8409138
Abstract: A delay mechanism for staging the operation of an automatic injection apparatus (20) to ensure medication contents are properly delivered prior to the needled syringe (32) of the apparatus being retracted. In one form, the delay mechanism includes a shuttle (50), a follower (110), a locking member, a damping compound, and a driver and a driver biasing element (44). The shuttle is for a needled syringe of the apparatus and includes a first latching element. The follower includes a second latching element and a cammable surface, which second latching element is for cooperating with the first latching element to limit motion of the shuttle relative to the follower in a second direction opposite the first direction.

  • Publication number: 20080269692
Abstract: A pharmaceutical delivery apparatus including a housing (22), a syringe assembly, and a needle (44) cap. The syringe assembly is plungeable relative to the housing from a first position, at which its needle tip is disposed within the housing, to a second position, at which its needle tip projects from the housing beyond the proximal end for insertion into an injection site. A base (46) of the needle cap is exposed at the housing proximal end to be manually grippable for cap removal. A needle cap stem is upstanding from the base and sized and configured to insert through an opening is the housing proximal end to cover the needle tip when the syringe assembly is disposed in the first position. The needle cap base further includes a plurality of distally projecting cams (54, 258) located radially outward of the stem. The cams are fittable within slots (40, 240) in the housing proximal end when the cap is fully mounted to the apparatus.

  • Publication number: 20080260550
Abstract: Provided herein are exemplary embodiments of an efficient pump apparatus. In one embodiment the pump apparatus comprises a piston assembly loosely disposed within a cylinder. The piston assembly includes a driving cable connecting a top leaky piston and a bottom leaky piston having a check valve connected thereto. The cylinder includes an outlet pipe at an upper portion thereof and a check valve located at a lower end of the cylinder. The pistons move in the cylinder at a velocity relative to the conduit such that as the pistons move along the cylinder they create a substantial tortuous leak path forming a hydrodynamic seal between the pistons and the cylinder.

  • Publication number: 20080195056
Abstract: A method and apparatus for administering a pharmaceutical. The method employs a delivery device including a housing, a pharmaceutical containing needled syringe movable within the housing, an activation button disposed at one of the housing, and wherein the housing is flared radially outward at the other end and designed to allow visibility of the needled syringe. A skin-contacting surface of the housing at the flared end is designed to limit slippage along the skin, and at least one injection targeting guide is provided.

  • Patent number: 7381355
Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for repairing a flaw in a surface, particularly in the field of vehicle glass repair. The apparatus has a housing adapted to engage the surface to be repaired, a repair seal for sealing between the housing and around the flaw to be repaired to define a repair space over the flaw. A reservoir communicates with the repair space and, in use, contains liquid repair material. A vacuum pump communicates with the repair space and the reservoir to apply a partial vacuum to the repair space and to the reservoir without repair liquid from the reservoir being drawn into the repair space in order to degas separately the flaw and repair liquid in the reservoir. After appropriate degassing, repair liquid from the reservoir is caused to flow into the repair space to fill the repair space with repair liquid.

  • Patent number: RE46668
Abstract: An improved holder and method for implanting a tissue-type prosthetic mitral heart valve that prevents suture looping and may also constrict the commissure posts of the valve. An upstanding or shaft member axially positioned on the holder causes the lengths of attachment sutures to extend axially beyond the commissure post tips to create a tent and prevent looping of any of an array of pre-implanted sutures around the tips during deployment of the valve. The shaft member may be axially movable such that it can be initially retracted and then actuated just prior to valve deployment. The shaft member may have notches on its distal tip for capturing the attachment sutures, which are crossed over along the valve axis to ensure engagement by the notches. The attachment sutures may be strands or filaments, or may be wider bands of flexible biocompatible material. If bands are used, they desirably cover the commissure post tips to further help prevent suture looping thereover.
