    Abstract: Sterilization of the corneal contact surface in an applanation tonometer is facilitated by an apparatus comprising a pivotable housing for the corneal contact surface of a corneal applanation device whereby the corneal contact surface may be rotated into a sterilization position without disassembly of the tonometer. In another embodiment, a cup for holding a sterilizing medium is provided for sterilizing the corneal contact surface in the sterilization position.
