  • Patent number: 10073756
Abstract: A method and associated systems for optimizing a computing platform. A processor joins sets of configurable parameters into groups that each identifies a configuration of the computing environment or of a component or subsystem of the computing environment. The processor generates a set of variations of each group, where each variation identifies a candidate configuration of the component, subsystem, or platform, and where each candidate configuration identifies a distinct set of values of the group of parameters associated with that component, subsystem, or platform. Each configuration of this first generation of configurations undergoes a massively parallel iterative procedure that generates a next generation of configurations by performing operations upon the first generation that are similar to those of a natural-selection process.

  • Patent number: 7658259
Abstract: A material handling vehicle includes first and second control handles positioned at opposing ends of an operator compartment. The first control handle is positioned adjacent the forks for driving the vehicle in a fore or forks first direction, and the second control handle is positioned adjacent the back of the vehicle for driving the vehicle in the aft or forks trailing direction. The aft control handle is provided in a twist grip style, which can be gripped easily by an operator facing the aft of the material handling vehicle. The control handles provide stability for the operator and an intuitive operator interface irrespective of direction of travel.

  • Patent number: 7259662
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reinforcing the training received by an operator of a material handling vehicle to maintain the operator's feet and legs in the operator compartment includes a first and second photoelectric beam extending across the entry to the compartment. When a deadman brake is released and the vehicle is commanded to move or is actually moving, the detectors sense the presence of objects extending through the entry. When objects are sensed, a vehicle brake can be applied, a visual or audio sensor can be activated, or the detected fault can be stored in memory. The faults can be used by a supervisor to calculate an operator rating.

  • Patent number: 5493268
Abstract: Apparatus for use in thwarting an attempted hijacking of a vehicle utilizes a fluid chemical agent which irritates living human tissue upon contact. The fluid is contained in a reservoir, and is flowed under pressure to spray nozzles via tubes. The nozzles are located relative to the vehicle to spray the agent onto a hijacker so as to produce discomfort and disorientation. An automatic actuation system sprays fluid out of the nozzles when the system is enabled, the vehicle is running, and one of the vehicle's windows has been broken. Agent may also be sprayed by manually actuating an override switch into an energized position.

  • Patent number: 5289769
Abstract: A system for changing a removable sleeve on a printing roller in a flexographic printing press is disclosed. Axially fixed bearing assemblies are installed on the mandrel of the printing roll, and positioned in a split bearing block. In changing the printing sleeve, at least one bearing block is opened to release the bearing assemblies as the mandrel is raised and fitted with a removable axial extension. The axial extension is then braced to support the roll in a raised position. The printing sleeve can then be axially extracted onto the extension, clearing the printing roller and the frame of the printing press. A second brace is then applied intermediate the printing roller and the extracted printing sleeve. Withdrawal of the first brace allows the printing sleeve to be entirely removed while the partially dismounted printing roller is stabilized by the second brace. A replacement printing sleeve is then placed over the axial extension, and the process reversed.
