  • Patent number: 5248309
Abstract: A thin sanitary napkin is disclosed along with its method of manufacture. The napkin has a liquid-impermeable baffle and an absorbent retained on the baffle. The absorbent has a longitudinally-extending central absorbent zone with a width of less than about 2 inches. The central zone is capable of absorbing at least 20 grams of body fluid which is discharged from the vaginal cavity and deposited onto the napkin. The central zone also has a greater stiffness than adjacent portions of the napkin so as to resist twisting and bunching during use. The sanitary napkin further has a caliper of less than about 5 millimeters.

  • Patent number: 5219341
Abstract: An absorbent article, such as a sanitary napkin is disclosed which is designed to absorb menstrual fluid. The absorbent article includes a liquid-impermeable baffle, a first absorbent layer and a second absorbent layer. The second absorbent layer is positioned between the baffle and the first absorbent layer and has a higher transverse wicking rate than the first absorbent layer. The absorbent article can be visually inspected to determine if it is near its maximum fluid capacity before leakage occurs.

  • Patent number: 4846824
Abstract: A labial pad (30) having an anatomically conformable configuration with a generally ovate geometry defined by a principal longitudinal axis (L), a minor transverse axis (T) and a generally orthogonal lateral or height axis (H), is comprised of a laterally upwardly directed projection (52) lying generally along the longitudinal axis within the posterior region (54) of the pad and having a prominence (64) proximate the distal end (60) thereof tapering toward the proximal end (58) along the longitudinal axis and to the opposed sides (62) along the transverse axis, wherein the projection is configured for disposition within the vestibule (32) of a wearer over a region bounded generally by the posterior labial commissure (36) and the labia terminating at or about the latter and extending forwardly therefrom over the vulva, to occlude the vestibule against flow of menses or the like while protecting the urogenitals from chafing contact.
