  • Patent number: 6389652
Abstract: A closure clip for fastening closed a bag or similar article having a unitary, generally flat, slotted body having at least two elongated juxtaposed space-apart members. The members define at least one slot extending longitudinally between the members and the members are further shaped so that the slot has a wide, bag-gathering area located in an open end of the slot. The slot transitions from the bag-gathering area to a narrow bag-accepting area located at a closed end of the slot. The invention also includes at least one aperture located in the body spaced-apart from the members and the slot and sized to accommodate a human's finger or thumb. A closure clip is fastened and removed from the open end of a bag using arm strength and is not reliant on finger strength or dexterity making the clip particularly user friendly.

  • Patent number: 6150035
Abstract: A composite laminate suitable for preparing labels is described. The composite laminate, in one embodiment, comprises(A) a substrate sheet of paper;(B) a first coating of polyolefin film having a printable upper surface and a lower surface bonded to the upper surface of the substrate sheet;(C) a second coating of polyolefin film having its upper surface bonded to the lower surface of the substrate sheet; and(D) a third coating comprising a pressure-sensitive adhesive on the lower surface of the second coating of polyolefin film. These composites may be used as the face of other composites such as labels, tapes, etc. These composite laminates exhibit film-like performance and paper-like strength.

  • Patent number: 5815682
Abstract: A device independent modem interface employs a call control and data transfer application programming interface for application programs to access a modem in a device independent fashion. A universal modem driver reads device specific information from a registry to issue specific control commands to a modem. The universal modem driver separates command mode and data mode of the modem transparently to the application. The modem interface also includes support for detecting a modem and for loading device specific information into the registry based on the modem identification.

  • Patent number: 5659685
Abstract: A method and apparatus are described for dynamically re-configuring bound adaptors on a networked computer capable of connecting to a plurality of networks via a plurality of adaptors including a WAN adaptor and a LAN adaptor. When a WAN link is activated by an incoming call, the networked computer is configured to be a router of packets between the WAN and LAN adaptors. When a WAN link is activated by an outgoing call, the networked computer logically disconnects from all adaptors except the activated WAN adaptor.

  • Patent number: 5436073
Abstract: A composite laminate suitable for preparing release sheets or pressure-sensitive adhesive sheets is described. The composite laminate, in one embodiment, comprises (A) a substrate sheet of paper; (B) a first coating bonded to one surface of the substrate, said first coating comprising a radiation-cured composition acrylic comprising, prior to curing, a mixture of (i) at least one acrylated or methacrylated organic polyamino compound, and (ii) at least one acrylated or methacrylated organic polyhydroxy compound; and (C) a second coating bonded to the other surface of the substrate, said second coating comprising a polyolefin film.

  • Patent number: 5399975
Abstract: A method of testing the electrical conductivity of a connection between an integrated circuit device (9) and a circuit board (7) to which the device (9) is connected. The device (9) includes a current path between a further connection (13) thereto and the connection (15) to be tested. The method comprises the steps of, while the circuit is inoperative: applying via the board (8) a potential of a first amount to the further connection (13); applying via the board (7) a potential of a second different amount to the connection (15) being tested; and positioning a probe adjacent the device (9) to sense indirectly current in the current path, the presence of current indicating that the connection (15) being tested is conductive.

  • Patent number: 5330418
Abstract: A knee brace has a pair of femoral and tibial links and a four bar joint mechanism by which a lateral side one of the femoral links is pivotally connected to a lateral side one of the tibial links and a four bar joint mechanism by which a medial side one of the femoral links is pivotally connected to a medial side one of the tibial links. Each of the joint mechanisms comprises an inner, padded, pivot plate and an outer pivot plate, each of end of which is pivotally connected at a single point to a respective one of the femoral and tibial links. Furthermore, the pad on the inner pivot plate of the medial side joint mechanism carries a spherically cupped femoral condyle pad by which the brace, generally, and the joint mechanism, specifically, can be properly positioned relative to the knee of the wearer.

  • Patent number: 4908159
Abstract: Silicate free detergent granules contain a seed crystal for calcium carbonate, such as calcite, a non-soap detergent active, especially an anionic active and a sugar such as sucrose to provide good mechanical strength, good dispersibility and other benefits. An alkali metal (e.g. sodium) carbonate may be present in the granules. The granules may be used as such to wash fabrics or may be added to a composition containing sodium carbonate and other conventional ingredients. The granules may be made by spray-drying or pan granulation.
