  • Publication number: 20240076926
Abstract: In one aspect, a movable barrier operator system is provided that includes a motor configured to turn a drum to pay out a cable from the drum and permit a door connected to the cable to move from an open position toward a closed position. The system includes a memory configured to store an expected variable of the door, and a sensor configured to detect movement of the door. The system further includes a processor circuit operatively coupled to the motor, the memory, and the sensor. The processor circuit is configured to: use the sensor to estimate an actual variable of the door; determine whether the actual variable is acceptable based at least in part on the expected variable and the processor circuit causing the motor to turn the drum; and change operation of the movable barrier upon the actual variable of the movable barrier being unacceptable.

  • Publication number: 20210324672
Abstract: In one aspect, a pet access apparatus including an actuator and a pet door movable between a closed position and an open position. The pet access apparatus includes communication circuitry to receive a signal indicative of proximity of a pet to the pet door. The pet access apparatus includes an interior camera, an exterior camera, and a processor operably coupled to the actuator, the communication circuitry, the interior camera, and the exterior camera. The processor is configured to determine an attempt by the pet to operate the pet door based at least in part on the proximity of the pet to the pet door, the interior image data, and the exterior image data. The processor is further configured to facilitate movement of the pet door from the closed position toward the open position upon the determination of the attempt by the pet to operate the pet door.

  • Patent number: 10358317
Abstract: A sensor apparatus for a movable barrier system having a rotatable drum and an elongate member that winds up on and pays out from an external surface of the rotatable drum. The sensor apparatus includes a base portion, a sensing portion, and a controller. The sensing portion senses a first spaced apart proximity of the elongate member relative to the sensing portion and a second spaced apart proximity of the elongate member relative to the sensing portion. The controller detects a change in the proximity of the elongate member relative to the sensing portion without the elongate member contacting the sensing portion.

  • Patent number: 8692684
Abstract: A moveable barrier operator includes a motor for moving a moveable barrier and a housing is disposed around the motor. The moveable barrier operator also includes a plurality of light sources and the plurality of light source are coupled to the housing along a periphery of the housing and being individually directable so as to illuminate at least one predetermined area outside the housing. The at least one predetermined area is proximal to a moveable barrier operator. A controller disposed in the housing and coupled to the motor. The controller is arranged and configured to automatically selectively actuate the motor to move the moveable barrier according to received user instructions.

  • Publication number: 20130145692
Abstract: A barrier control apparatus and method for controlling movement of a barrier are provided to allow a user the ability to move a barrier without physically contacting the barrier. For example, the barrier control apparatus maintains a defined distance between an object such as a hand and a defined location relative to the barrier such that movement of the barrier follows movement of the object. In this way, a user is able to maintain control of the movement of the barrier throughout the opening and closing process. The barrier control apparatus is further able to detect gestures made by the user and can control movement of the barrier accordingly.

  • Publication number: 20090282875
Abstract: These various embodiments can be deployed in conjunction with a movable barrier (100) and an end user manipulable lock hasp (300) and generally provide a movable hasp-blocking member (301) and a transport member (302) that can selectively move that hasp-blocking member between a hasp-blocking position and a non-blocking position. By one approach, this transport member further comprises a locking component (305) that readily permits the movable hasp-blocking member to be pulled from the hasp-blocking position towards the non-blocking position but that resists pushing of the movable hasp-blocking member towards the non-blocking position. These teachings will also generally provide for a barrier mounting member that is configurable to secure the movable hasp-blocking member and the remotely controllable transport member to the movable barrier.

  • Publication number: 20080083167
Abstract: A chain guide is provided for a garage door operator that reduces frictional forces on the chain guide as the chain moves along a travel path. The garage door operator includes a chain having a portion engaged with a sprocket, with a motor for electrically powering the rotation of the sprocket to thereby move the chain. A chain guide is provided in the operator, with the chain guide defining a path for movement of the chain. The friction reducing insert is disposed in the channel of the chain guide to capture and engage the chain and reduce frictional forces.
