Abstract: A removable insert adapted for use with a spiral or other ring-type binder includes a thin body member, a hooking element connected to, or integral with, the body member which defines a longitudinally extending recess configured to receive at least a first page retaining member, and a fastener connected to, or integral with, the body member configured to detachably secure the body member to a second page retaining member. The hooking element includes a journal bearing about which the first page retaining member may be rotated. The fastener includes a constricted channel adjacent to the edge of the insert and an enlarged portion disposed inwardly from the edge.

Abstract: The present invention relates to bindings for books, wherein the spine is hidden behind an extension of the cover. Specifically, a piping element is inserted into a recess formed by a doubled-over center section of a cover of the book. Because of the structure of the piping element, the book is capable of laying flat when opened, while hiding the spine and concurrently protecting both the spine and other objects from damage.

Abstract: A thin, portable, lightweight electronic name and address cardfile optionally including memo alarm, calendar and calculator functions, is provided with a contact and movement sensitive scrolling mechanism for sequentially advancing electronically simulated name and address cards in the style of bottom-attachable index cards. The scrolling function is accomplished by manipulating a graphic representation of a rotary actuator of the type provided on a mechanical rotary-type directory. The simulated card-flipping is accompanied by an artificial sound effect reminiscent of the expected sound of cards flipping. The device may be provided with holes positioned so as to render the device insertable within a loose-leaf ring-type binder notebook or personal organizer.
